After watching the review of the Kershaw Skyline 1760 by Nutnfancy, I decided to purchase the knife from my local Bass Pro Shops. The price was quite high (~$65) and that was really the first major issue I had with the knife.

The second issue was the pocket clip. It was a right-sided clip that did not carry too deeply on either end of the knife and for me, this was a major issue. I am a lefty, so I prefer to have the pocket clip on the left side and I like having the knife oriented tip-up when I extract it so that I can deploy it quickly. The Skyline did not offer any of these, so I avoided carrying it and opted for something that catered to my preferences. Another small issue was that the pocket clip was rather tight when replacing inside the pocket (the benefit of this is that it is less likely to come out of the pocket once inside).

The last "major" issue for me was the thumb stud on the left side of the knife. It was virtually inaccessible for a lefty and therefore quite useless (other than to act as a blade-stop once deployed). This annoyed me very much as I like to open my knives with the thumb stud.

One of the EDC knives that replaced the Skyline for me was the Leatherman c33 (yes, I know, it has the same pocket clip issues as the 1760). It was a small, lightweight cheap (~$20) folding knife that I could beat on without worrying about damage. The c33 has since been replaced my many other EDC knives that I much prefer (SOG Visionary I and II, Benchmade Mini Griptilian, Browning Flash 120BL), but one feature of the Leatherman c33 that I have found great value in is the pocket clip screw lugs.

There are three of these in each Leatherman Crater 33 series and Expanse 33 series knife and are removable. I tried to modify my Leatherman c33 to have the pocket clip on the left-side tip-up end, but drilling the three holes for it was a bit of a nightmare for a novice like myself.

Luckily, the Skyline only has two pocket clip screw holes, making the whole (hole... *groan*) drilling process slightly less complicated. I decided to utilize the lugs from the Leatherman knife and make my Kershaw a left-carry knife. The results are as shown:

As I stated earlier, the drilling process was only slightly less complicated but still enough of a challenge for myself to mess it up once (ruining the best spot to put the clip). The spot that I did decide to put it was a little too close to the rearmost handle screw, and I consequently had to grind the end of the clip to accommodate it. The screws you see in the picture are also taken from the Leatherman c33 due to the fact that the Skyline pocket clip screws are too large for the threads of the lugs. They don't match perfectly with the other screws, but it's not bad.

The other issue was remedied quite simply by taking a Dremel to the finger choil area on the left-side scale and carving it out a bit to allow access to the left-side thumb stud:

Now that I have done these modifications, I will try carrying the knife to see how I like it.

Thanks for reading!

Interesting mod.

Just an FYI, you should have paid 35-40 bucks for that Skyline online and there are no thumbstuds on the Skyline, just blade stops. It was designed as a flipper only knife.

Once you are able to flip that knife with zero wrist action (very easy to learn how to do) I think you will fall in love with it.

I know. In retrospect, I should've bought the knife online and saved money but I didn't have a credit card to shop online with and I worked at Bass Pro Shops, so I just decided to buy it there.
As for the flipper, I became quite proficient at flipping it open without gyration after a few days, so that was no issue for me. I still love the knife for its ease of opening. The thumb studs/blade stops were more of a peeve for myself than anything and I simply had to rectify it.

Thank you for viewing and thanks for the feedback!
