Kershaw storm thumbstud/hard open fix

So I bought a storm a while ago, hated it so much because the horrible thumbstuds slice up my thumb, and ended up returning it.

Being the glutton for punishment I am, I bought a storm II again, thinking the bigger size may help the opening. Well it didn't, still hard to open.

So what I did was to use sand paper to smooth the edges on both thumbstuds. Then I took the knife apart, used a small grinding stone to manually sand down the retaining stud on locking liner. It's a semi-sphere shaped stud, take note which way the blade is going against it when opening, then sand that side down a bit to form a flat slope.

If you have a storm and find it hard to open like I do, try this.

I understand completely. I filed mine (all of them) down a bit, not because of the bloody thumb syndrome, but rather because they would catch in my jeans pocket, both trying to get the knife out and putting it back in my pocket. Seems to be because of the tiered, sharp edge machining on the studs.

One thing I can say is that EVERYTHING seems to be sharp on a Kershaw!!!
