Kershaw vs. Buck

Kershaw. They seem to have something for everyone. Cheap knives, mid range knives, and ZT for their higher end offerings.

I don't really care for Kershaw, for the most part. I like my Oso Sweet (and most of what Ken Onion does, really), but I think most of Kershaw's designs are ugly and less than interesting. Buck, on the other hand, produces timeless classics and custom jobs with perfect fit and finish.

Kershaw.

Better QC in general on both imports and domestic stuff in my experience.
Buck has a better warranty Dept. But also a greater chance that you may need to use it early on.

To be clear, I don't think Buck is a bad knife, nor does Kershaw have a bad warranty, just head to head that's where they stand in my opinion.

Kershaw makes a slightly better product
Buck does a slightly better job standing behind their product.

I like Kershaw, except for the models of Buck I like better.

It seems like a strange question. I may like BMW better than Toyota, but that doesn't help if I need a pickup truck.

Buck. Don't get me wrong I like zts but the kershaw stuff is too oniony for my taste.

Difficult question. I personally favor Buck, but a big part of that is two knives. The design of the Selkirk is pretty much my Platonic ideal of a belt knife (Can I get a USA made S35VN Selkirk, Buck? Pretty please?), and I think the Marksman is by far and away the best and most interesting modern EDC knife either company makes. Buck can make some real stinkers, but they have iconic designs and some absolute gems in their lineup.

Kershaw, on the other hand, is a model of consistency. They collaborate with great designers, have solid QC, a business plan that strikes me as very calculated and they rarely produce a truly bad knife.

For me Buck has been nothing but dissapointing and Kershaw has usually been pleasantly surprising.

I like my Bucks for hunting, butchering, and outdoor use, but than again I really like my Skyline for EDC.
