What's the problem with Taiwan? I think CRKT's whole line is made in Taiwan, and their quality has impressed everyone.

If you get careless with a Kershaw, you will do more than bleed -- you could lose a chunk of flesh. Wherever they make them, Kershaw's knives are SHARP.

i have no problem with "made in taiwan", it is starting to be a mark of quality on alot of knives.

Taiwan makes nice knives. Don't confuse Taiwan with China, Taiwan can make decent stuff from their factories. The CRKT S2 models are probably near Benchmade quality, and their M16's are very nice knives at very low cost. Don't get too bummed out over it.

Tawain might not be the problem, but 420J2 steel is. That's a pretty expensive knife to sport such crap steel. I don't think there is a knife steel below 420J2 in terms of edge holding and performance in all areas except rust resistance. I think that steel is used to make liners for folders on more expensive knives. For 60 bucks there is a lot more to choose from, and I never understood why kershaw amphibians sold for over 20 bucks. At REI they cost about 60 dollars too, but the people who buy their knives there don't know they are getting one made of cheese.

Redratsnake, get a CRKT M16 with aluminum scales (better blade steel with the Al-handle models too). It's also Taiwan, but it is one heck of a knife for the $$$! Don't let that knife make you think that all Taiwan manufacturing is crap. Just avoid the 420J steel blades and stick with companies like CRKT, Gigand, and Outdoor Edge (I think those are Taiwanese manufactured).
