Khukuri Tattoo Idea Needed

The idea has started in my head before my father died but really sticked to my mind ever since he died of this tattoo idea:

On back~
Traditional Family shield
One side Blacksmith hammer
Other side a bladed weapon

Why that approach? Family shield for obvious reasons while blacksmith hammer, dad just worked his ass off to keep his family family while the bladed weapon represents dad and our family fighting hard to survive as a family. Needless to say, dad succeed in that. And so I wanted to honor him this way and put this on my back.

But this is where I need you guys' help.
I would like some suggestion of a Khukuri design that will show up from top and from bottom behind the shield while the blacksmith hammer will take the other end in a X fashion unseen from behind.

Reason why I picked Khukuri blades is because it just speaks to me so much more than any other weapons and I tried to like other bladed weapons (and I still do) but they have such a linear approach to some of the medieval bladed weapons. The khukuri curves, the grace, the handmade beauty...It will help keep the combination unique for a family shield.

Thank you guys in advance. :)

P.s. I'm willing to also hear new ideas or new approaches but I want it to end up being photo-realistic.

To me, Foxy Folly is out since it's too thick a blade so I was probably thinking of CAK or some others. But I'm not well versed on how many available styles there are of blade shapes.

*Goes back to do more research*

Sheez, that's a hell of a link. I'm surprised I didn't come across that one yet.

Thank you, that will also help me on my future purchases. :p

Well, I'll need to know what you mean by 'Traditional Family Shield', because approximately 2,970,000 pictures popped up in my face when I typed that exact phrase in. But can you draw/illustrate/convey your idea somehow onto paper or computer? Because if you can, I can probably be of some assistance, and if you can't, I can definitely be of some assistance, as I can draw well enough. That reminds me, this woman asked me to draw a tattoo for her, still have not started it, gosh darn it, I feel terrible about that...my first art commission is looking to be a utter failure.... However, I am confident that I can help you in SOME way. Send me a note, or respond, explaining this shield to me and/or drawing it for me, and I would be glad to help. And, if you are interested in my drawings and such, don't ask if I want monetary payment. I don't, just consider it an official welcome to the HI Cantina :) Peace dude. Again, I would be glad to help you, if you want help.

Thank you Gorog and that's precisely my problem. With the millions of "traditional family shield" design out there, I've been trying to figure out what exactly will represent me and my family. The only thing I have so far in ideas is a Khukuri knife, blacksmith hammer, and a shield of some sort with a wolf on it (since wolves are very loyal to each other, family-wise). Anything more than that is open to suggestions :p

Hmm.... So, if you don't mind me asking...what exactly is your family about? I'm not trying to ask you to divulge your family secrets, just a general idea of OldeWolf's family values. If you could give me that, you or I could do some research on that particular value that best describes your family, and thereby, create an image that sums it all up. There is enough symbolic images out there to blow BOTH our minds in front of our faces, but not all of them would best describe your family. Try asking a moderator to send me a PM with your email or some more direct form of communication, and we'll discuss it further, if you want. Peace.

i would do a search for tattoo patterns and such -- here is a link to a place with a lot of different patterns, ideas, info and “flash” (pictures/drawings)
http://www.tattoojohnny.com/

the link Steve sent out is the best I can find for the Khukuri shapes

i would look around and take my time - do you already have ink or id this your first. I’m sure you know what i mean when i say - tattoos are for life

All my ink was done for specific reasons except one, now wish i hadn’t done it. So now i am trying to find a tattoo artist to work with me on a design to cover one of my old ones that i got in haste

my advice to all my friends getting tattoos is take your time - fast talking guys at a shop that are in a hurry to get me in the chair i won’t bother with them. Don’t get anything done that is cheap - as with most things you get what you pay for

good luck

Gorog:
I have no problem sharing my life story as that's pretty much what my family means; the sharing of our experiences so others can learn and do good with it.
Here is how my family is like all my life as we're the kind that has gone through hell and back. It is me, my sister, and dad. Just us the trio. Mom and dad divorced in '85 and she passed away in '97 from prescription overdose. All my other family members for various reasons died from cancer and drug overdose. That pretty much leaves me, my sister and dad left. So we traveled the country, moving to many different places (non-military), just sticking together as a strong family unit with dad always working 2-3 jobs just to provide while suffering from alcoholism. He finally went to AA at the end of my Jr high year and we moved to Arizona and he changed his life forever, became the very devoted father, always going to every wrestling meet of mine, to every cheerleader meet of my sister's. He has absolutely turned his life around till the day he died. He was there for his family and his friends and his AA people. The family bond we had made during those years just made us stronger and helped us realized we had a special gift in that man being in our life. And so, I want to honor that by having something that represent devotion to family through hell times and good times.

Here is more about my dad:

BFH44:
I've had one small tattoo already of a Chinese symbol for "Weird/spirit", got it when I was a freshman in college. But you're not the first to remind me of that lifetime perspective that comes with this but thank you regardless for the reminder. I've been spending over a year thinking about it and talking to dad about it before he died. He liked the idea of a family shield but left it up to me how I wanted it to be like. My dad has his own tattoos of various kinds from the 60's and 70's so I grew up with them. I think I found a dedicated tattoo artist with 20+ years experience and 3 binders thickly full of his past works. So I think I will be doing it with him (Will find the website soon, can't find the information on my desk...)

And wow, nice website, BFH44. I will be spending time there! :D

that sounds great -- its is always best to have someone you trust and with a god rep -- good luck finding whaty ou ar looking for
