Kiln Controllers, TAP vs. Rampmaster?

no love?

surprisingly I could find a lot of info here on searches. Glad I checked again. was about to pull trigger on a kiln with ramp master.

As I read about that TAP controller - boy is that nice! I just found the costs of different controllers.

the standard controller as base price, the Rampmaster III is $75 extra

the standard controller as base price, the TAP is $225 extra

It is nice, but $225 over the basic control (basic is what I've got)

Just the controller is $350+. I'm glade I used it in my build.

JT, you added the info while I was editing my post to show prices. You're right, it's really nice, especially the WiFi connection for networking.

Just guessing that you have to have wi-fi to communicate with the controller by I-phone? We are data/internet challenged where we live.

Currently yes the controller connects to the Internet and your phone uses an app to log into a server that has access to your oven. I hope in the future you will be able to have the oven connect to a home network without Internet. Thiswoildslow me to check the progress without having to go out to the shop and look.

Well shucks JT - that is NOT good to be required to use their server to connect and see TAP info. The newer Foscams are the same way and I do NOT like that. All I want is for it to connect to my home network and allow me to use a web browser (or a computer or tablet program (I guess that would be an app for a tablet?) to view, change the TAP stuff. Why be required to use their server!

Seems someone should develop an open source diy controller based on a Raspberry Pi or arduino

I looked into it befor I bought the tap and after adding everything up the tap was cheaper. I have a budy that is quite into the arduino stuff and he looked over the tap and said its possible to build it but cost more. If you look at the main control board on the tap is a off the shelf item that you can buy. It does not have any programming but it's available. All this being said thy are eager to update there software to make it better so if yo email them and ask for specific changes its possible thy will implement them.
