I'm not sure how many of you already know this maker but I would like to introduce, Roman Kislitsyn. Roman, is a native of Apatity, Murmansk region, Russia who now lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. He grew up around Sami design and has reflected it beautifully in his knives. My buddy and fellow forumite, Peter Mckinley, put me on to this fine craftsman a few months ago. The intricate hand carved scrimshaw work is impressive. He recently asked if I would make a blade for him and I jumped at the chance. I'll throw out some specs and let the pictures tell you the rest.

Steel: 52100
Blade is 160 mm by 32 mm.
Handle: Karelian birch and reindeer antler.
Sheath: Reindeer antler and vegetable tanned leather.
Sami style carving on antler parts.

Thanks for looking.
Rick

First.. a pic of the completed blade I made for him. "Sorry for the crappy focus, Coop!"

THIS ... is the end result of Roman's artistry. These are from his Facebook Page.

W'ow!

Inspiring me to get back to a side project, but it's sure not gonna come out like *that*.

beautiful scrim & blade. i have always wondered if the hockey stick shaped sheath tip has a purpose, or is a style ?

I think it is a grip so you can hold the knife in its sheath ... and fling it out like a skeet-ball!

Rick, thank you for posting it here!
And thank you all guys for such a positive responses!

There are a few theories, but I think it's just a style. North Sami tribes used to have more expressed hook, up to 90 degrees, and less carving on sheath. South Sami tribes had just a gentle bend at the end of sheath and more heavily decorated sheath. So, it's just a style...

You registered on Bladeforums... yes! Stick around, Roman. It is good to have you.

Outstanding work. Threads like this remind me how lucky some of us are here, to be able to hang around online with some of you.

well now, that does not suck. Not at all. I already knew of his work, I am not sure how, though? Still, that style has always floored me when done well. Your friend does it well.
I like that blade you made, too. I swear, if I could make a decent living turning those out, I would ditch this article-writing, stats doing day job in a heartbeat.

thanks for telling the story and sharing the work.

Wow! That is the most beautiful knife I've seen on here in a while. More of a modern style blade guy myself, but that is just beautiful. I want it.

Wonderful knife. That karelian birch and carved reindeer antler handle work so well on this piece. The slender shape also tells me this knife would be an absolute pleasure to carry and use.
