Just saw one this weekend and looks like it would be a good bottle / cook pot for boiling water. Anyone have experience with this product??

several people have these and boil in them.

at WAR a couple weeks ago our own Kevin E stuck his right in the fire to warm up some water for morning tea.

I use one as my daily water bottle. Generally, I carry the smaller 18 oz one, but I also carry the next size larger when I'm going to be doing sports etc when I'll need more water.
They're not exactly light, but they're quite durable & seal well with the sillicone O ring that is on the cap.
One thing to mention, they're also not the quietest things when unscrewing/replacing the cap.
They'll hold strong flavors/scents for a few days use, probably because of the rolled lip at the mouth which is hard to completely clean out.

No problem with that.

Other stainless steel canteens arent necessarily the same though, SIGG brand coats the inside of their bottles.

They are pretty darn nice indeed!

But they dent easily.. I dropped mine on a rock, and made a nasty buump in it :\

They do dent, but I don't much care.
Then again, my dents are small.
I'm just glad theres no coating to worry about chipping off when the inevitable dents happen.

For information, Sigg is Aluminum and should not be boiled in. Kleen Kanteen I think I remember reading that you shouldn't boil in them even though they are steel. Might want to run a google search.

Kleen Kanteen doesn't recommmend you boil in it because it's a single wall bottle and gets hot (duuh:rolleyes:). Their fear is that some idiot will forget that boiling water in a single wall bottle is hot and burn themselves. I've done it few times and much prefer the Guyot bottles...

It's okay to boil in aluminum (there is plenty research that will go both ways on the health affects), but my understanding is that Sigg coats the inside of most of their bottles. I have one of the smaller (liter?) Sigg bottles that comes with a nesting steel cup...decent smalll setup.

Good to know on the KK, also I should have clarified about the coating on the Sigg, its what I get for posting late. Thanks!

I have boiled water several times in mine. The only problem is trying to get a hold on it to pour the water out. A Leatherman works fine for getting it out of the fire.

A loop of wire around the neck of the Kleen Kanteen that will act as a bail will make fire duty easier.
