Hey Y'all,

I am leaving in May to spend a year in El Salvador doing hurricane and earthquake relief. I am curious about knife laws and have been unable to find anything.

Does anyone here have the skinny on them? Or at least a solid resource?

Thanks!

no hard proof, but since everyone down there carrys a machete around like we do a cell phone, I think your good.

That's kind of what I was thinking, but I know how ridiculous they are about firearms, so I wanted to check...

you can carry whatever the heck you want as far as machetes are concerned. I've been there 4 times now, and I think they have more machetes in people's hands, walking, than any other central or south American country. BE CAREFUL DOWN THERE. Trust me, its not gringo friendly in the big city. Don't give ANYONE anything they can extort you with.

Guns are hard to get down there, too. You can get them but the permit process is getting modified. Let me know when you are going down there.
