I'm looking for new ways to store my knives. Currently, I store my knives in an old leatherman gift box, which is getting too small, and I'm also looking to upgrade. Any recommendations would be helpful.
Looking forward to hearing your ideas!

For basic storage (in the basement) I use a few 10 gallon Husky storage totes from Home Depot, but I have mostly fixed blades.

I bought a used Kennedy machinist chest from FB marketplace, sanded it down and removed the rust. Then spray painted to a hammered gray. Added liners and currently using it as my knife storage. The pic below is not the exact one, but close to what I picked up.

I have two lockers
Craftsman, Husky
both in black
But it depends on the size of what you're storing
I limit my storage to these
Helps me contain my numbers

I store my knives on any available flat surface. That way they're available for use and admiration to everyone.

Edit: I actually keep most of them in a plastic box, but at any given time many of them are out for one reason or another.

For my show fixed blades I make wall stands. I've got the coveted NRA Lifetime Member knife, which came with a wall stand and no sheath. Not a user.

I just thought of something. A machinist's tool chest. Some of them have felt in the drawers. You can pick them up for 50-100$. The older ones are wooden. Machinists are obsessesed with taking care of their tools. After all, it's a big investment. I have Mitutoyu micrometers in every size from 0-1 inch to 11-12 inch. That's 12 micrometers worth about 2,000$ on the open market, because they're not digital. But they are to 0.0005", 5/10000". They even have an insulated pad to grasp them, so the heat from your fingers doesn't change the dimension of the instrument through thermal expansion.

Well, got off the track there a bit. But look into that kind of toolchest. You can fit a lot of knives in one.

As my collection grew i want from vault hard cases for to a pelican 1450 case with nalpak foam (40 slots). I still use the vault case for knives I use often. I've also started getting into traditionals and just purchased the pelican case 1200 with the nalpak slip joint inserts (28 knives). The vault cases don't work well unless there's a pocket clip present. I didn't really have a better option and certainly didn't want to store the knives in leather pocket sheaths or keep them in the pouches they came in. I really like the convenience the pelican/nalpak cases provide plus they seal tightly. I keep some type of desiccant in the cases and also keep the blades oiled or coated in renaissance wax. Probably complete overkill but it's simple and not too expensive.
