Hello, I just cleaned out my father’s apartment. He had a collection of quite a few knives. Random assortment. I’m asking. What is the best route for me to move forward and sell these items? I appreciate any help. Thank you

I'd read this first, now, to understand the rules.
There are so many scammers out there on both sides of transactions, and this helps filter at least some out and also support the forum operations.

With the Gold Membership you can ask what going market prices are.

Selling here is free with a Gold Membership, PayPal Fees and Shipping Cost= Reasonable.

eBay costs the buyer about 10% more depending on State Taxes and the Seller about 20% more in Fees + Shipping cost. So you can sell them for 15% less here and the buyer pays less- No Taxes.

If you are not pretty familiar with the individual knives in the collection, it will require quite a bit of searching and investigating to find their current values. Since this is not an auction type forum, you must list the total price (including shipping costs) in your post. If you don’t want to ship outside your country of origin, don’t forget to include that.
Check out other people’s for sale posts to get a good idea of verbiage and above all, CYA.
Communication is the key.
Best of luck and welcome to bladeforums

Get a Gold membership and research each item before you start selling. The people on here will go out of their way to help you to do it right.

Welcome to Bladeforums Jason.

I think the first step is determining if the knives are worth selling. Some knives may not be worth the trouble.

If you don't know if the knives are worth selling you could post pictures of the knives in this thread and the members here can give you a good idea of what you have and if they are worth selling.

You don't need to photograph each knife individually for this purpose, several knives in each pic will work as long as the pics are clear.

With a Gold membership you can post pics directly from your computer.

Use the Completed Items search on eBay and see what each particular knife has recently sold for. Compare only knives of the same condition. Knives that are used, broken, or aren't in the original boxes will sell for less (sometimes only a fraction) of a new-condition knife. You'll also get an idea of the current supply / demand for each knife.

You can sell on Bladeforums with a Gold membership, sell on eBay, sell privately / locally, or unload them all to a consignment dealer.

If you have any questions about a particular knife, or can't figure out what a knife is, ask away here in the forums. Notice all of the specialty and brand-specific sub-forums where experts are certain to see your post.

Pictures. Build a rapport with other members. See it as long term, not short term. Someone may be interested in more than one. Make deals.

Attract the genuine and sincere and they will help protect you from scammers.

It's like any small business and you may have just started one.

So much better than ebay! Plus, anyone trying to sell a clone or scam people here will be called out immediately, (there’s a whole section just for feedback), so you can trust the buyer/sellers/knives on here, generally MUCH more than ebay.

Welcome to the forums BTW!

Unfortunately, I can see right off that most of those knives are very inexpensive (ones marked Smith & Wesson, UZI, Winchester, "Sheffield", Jaguar, "Navy"). It's possible that all are very inexpensive.

The one knife marked "Spyderco" looks like a counterfeit Spyderco Rubicon to me. And if there is one counterfeit, their might be others. The Strider folder in particular is one I would be suspicious of because there are a lot of fake Strider knives out there.

This is not a knock against your father. It's not at all uncommon for unsuspecting people to buy knives not realizing they are counterfeits.

The ones marked CRKT, Boker, Kriegar, Gerber, SOG, Schrade, and Byrd, are also not valuable knives, even if they are real.

The Buck knife looks like a model 776 Revel Safe Spin (another very inexpensive knife, they sold for $20 new), but Buck knives are also counterfeited. Either way, it might not be worth selling.

The Gerber looks like the Chameleon model.

There are a few fixed-blades among those knives that I don't recognize. But as far as the folders, and some of the fixed-blades, I'd be surprised if you found any buyers here at Bladeforums. The members here lean towards higher-end knives, and they most certainly won't buy counterfeits.

The knives that are clearly marked with brand names, model numbers, etc, you can research online. You might find buyers on ebay, as ebay is a place where people buy cheaper knives.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

There are plenty of people that like inexpensive knives.- post them up in lots (or even as one lot). If you just want them gone, price accordingly - it'll probably feel close to giving them away, unfortunately.

That Lev-R-Lock and the Soque River with the thumb indents, maybe they aren't really valuable but they sell quick on eBay.

I would keep anything with any sort of sentimental value...and post up in the appropriate section of the Exchange various "lots" as suggested for a stated price (shipped).

You have little to lose but time and effort, and maybe you'll have a little fun along the way and make some new friends here.

As a moderator, would you also advise the OP to weed out any counterfeits before posting lots of knives for sale? It might be important for him to hear it from a moderator. I don't imagine he would make any friends selling counterfeits.

Here is a picture of a counterfeit "Spyderco Rubicon". It closely resembles the knife in the OP's pics. I can't find any reference to Spyderco ever making this version of a Rubicon. The site that sells this knife refers to it as a "replica". I guess that's a nice way of saying counterfeit.

And these counterfeit "Striders" bear a striking resemblance to the "Strider" in the OP's pics (an identical resemblance). Including the box. These are all fakes, being sold new for between $32 and $45. All three pics from different retailers, but I found more.

The only other high-end brand I see is Extrema-Ratio. But I know that ER knives are also counterfeited. So much so that ER warns about it on their website.

It would go without saying that he should not sell any counterfeits on this site. (I have not looked at the knives in his collection and therefore offer no comment.)

We would take a very dim view of any such sales, and the responsibility lies with the seller to do their due diligence prior to posting any knife for sale on this forum.

Our rules address this and we expect all members to abide by the terms they agreed to upon registering.

My earlier post was of a general nature, not specific to this situation.

I also have a large collection to dispose of. I’ve had some success on this forum. I’ve been most successful selling at a garage sale and at a gun & knife show. Wishing you success with whatever route you take.
