Knife Handle Tape

I recently purchased the Ka-Bar D2 Impact Knife and I absolutely love it. However, I'm not a big fan of the handle, and would like to wrap it with paracord. The only thing is, the cord slips off the end of the knife. I noticed that Striders fixed blade knife and Spyderco Kumo has this friction spray-on on the handle that prevents the cord from slipping. Does anyone know what it is? Spray-on or some sort of frictoin tape would work for me. Thanks

Sorry, don't know about the spray. But there are 3 things I've done to prevent cord slippage on various fixed blades I've had.

First, file work. Not a reasonable option for every knife, or every person. But it'll definetely stop the cord slipping.

Second, I've glued some low grit (40 grit) sand paper and wrapped it on both sides of the handle. Then I simply put the cord on normally. Stopped all slipping, very similar to traditional Japanese sword handles using stingray leather, even in appearance. Just an idea that popped into my head one day, and it works very well. This is my favourite option in fact.

Third, I've also slipped over the bare handle a length of bicycle rubber inner tube. Stops slippage of the cord very well.
Easiest option, and non-permanent as you can take it off any time.

Good luck.

I also like that underwrap stuff that you use before taping ankles, or the stuff that they wrap horses lower legs with. Its slightly tacky, but comes off easily.

I use hockey stick tape on a lot of things. Less aggressive than stakeboard tape, but still holds a great grip. Even in gloves.

Isn't there some way of using like strips of leather or other animal type hide, wetting it and wrapping the handle, and then letting it dry? I've seen some larger knives that do that. May be an idea if you weren't going for the total utilitarian set up.
