Knife Inventory Apps?

I am looking at inventory apps for the iPad and iPhone to keep track of my knife collection.

The gun cabinet apps seem to be more vibrant and available then the knife spps.

The only knife collecting app I could find is "knives and swords collector." Free for the iPhone but $5.99 for the iPad.

A couple of the gun inventory programs look more promising because I could inventory my guns as well as my knives.

So what are you using to inventory your knives and/or guns including desktop software and iPhone iPad apps?

My eyes work just fine for my "inventory", but I don't have a huge collection either. I used to have a ton of knives but I got rid of everything I didn't use.

Good luck dude. I'd try an excel spreadsheet.

Thanks my friend. I'll keep my eyes open for them ants. 😃

NM Gun Collecting Software
NM Knife Collecting Software

Use one for both purposes.

Seriously - excel might work for you just fine, and you might already have it on your computer! You can customize the cells to hold any info you want - blade steel, handle material, condition, etc...

If you were to find an app, make sure it has an export feature in a standard format so that your work isn't lost when you change platform or the app disappears (and for backup).

Exactly what I was going to suggest. I made an excel sheet a while back that has all of my knives in it and a bunch of information about them. Stuff like maker, year, model, serial #, where I bought it (location, person, contact info), condition, price when bought, price when sold (if I sold the knife). The possibilities with excel are nearly endless. I will say that it was pretty depressing to actually see how much I had invested in knives...

I know the feeling man! Hey, any chance you have a blank copy of that spreadsheet saved? You might be able to just email it to the OP... ?

I can make a blank copy when I get home. If any one is interested. I can even put it up on Google docs and have it available to any one who wants a copy.

I prefer to go the ole pen and paper route if I were to do such as I tend to lean towards methods not involving saved data that can be conveniently extracted from iCloud backups or from the phone/computer in general by those who feel the need to snoop. :)

Even though I don't need it (and it will probably make me want more knives just to catalog them) I'd like a copy just for the heck of it. It would be cool to remember exactly when and where and what I paid, etc.

Thanks Rubicon_Joey!

Actually that is a concern. One of the apps that I really like for the iPhone and iPad does not have cloud backup. Many of the complaints about the app is that it does not have that kind of backup. Instead you can generate a PDF file for your own use. So I see that is an advantage rather than as a negative.

I back up a lot of stuff in the cloud but I'm a little nervous about backing up guns and knives.

+1 on the excel spreadsheet. That's what I use. I also have a separate worksheet for each category/brand so I can see what I have duplicates of for disposal. I put zip-diddly in the clouds. I back mine up on a disc frequently and about every 6 months print out a paper version for hardcopy backup. My samsung pad came with an app that reads excel as well.

Not specifically for collecting knives, but you could use Evernote. Cross platform for Windows, Android, Mac and iOS. You could set up a template you use for the formatting and add pictures, price, date purchased, etc. You could also tag them like "folder," hunting, kitche, etc. A knife can have more than one tag.

Put it on " Notepad" and save in your documents. Free.

I listed brands alphabetically.

Oh man ... Why did I not think of that. I use Evernote for everything else in my life. Easy to set up a knife folder. Could also attache emails and other tracking info for specific knives.

I am trying an iPhone app today and it really stinks.

Thanks my friend.
