Knife lanyards

I like a Reeves style knot with one of these beads.

I'm not much of a fan of lanyards unless the item it's on is loose in the pocket. I like a simple loop lanyard with 550 cord on my car keys.

I tie a Reeve coil for most of my lanyards--11 to 14 twists...some with a small bead of some kind. It embellishes the knife but the 'looks' thing is secondary. My main use of a lanyard is to get a quick pull from my pocket or the slipcase within which I carry the knife. Anything I'm likely to be using around water, possible stressful situations or hi-loss probability I usually incorporate some kind of thumb loop into the coil set to provide a tight lanyard when gripping the knife comfortably.

On my smaller, more discrete knives I usually use 550 paracord, gutted or ungutted depending on the size and look of the knife and, in some cases, the lanyard hole size.

On my more beefy knives--likely to see heavy use outdoors or in the bush--I have been using good quality raw leather boot lace. It ages well and can be dyed or darkened as necessary. A leather lanyard renders a different personality to the knife as opposed to paracord.

The most extreme lanyard is on my DPx HEST 2.0 folder....I have a length of heavy solid copper tight-link chain (which I also use to attach my biker wallet to a front belt loop) looped to match the handle length. Adds some heft and balance to the knife and looks pretty badass.

Sometimes just simple beads, M6 stainless steel nuts fit ungutted 550 Paracord well and M5 for gutted.
The lighter has more so the cord doesn't get singed.

Get some paracord and skull beads from your local army surplus store and check out this website:

Animatedknots.com

Also, look up a guy who goes by "stormdrane" on google. Those 2 resources should have you well on your way to tying up some handsome lanyards!

Not being able to afford the fancy beads, I buy 1/4" hex nuts from the hardware store for my lanyards.

Charlie, you can get those beads at most army surplus stores. They are $1.99 for 10 beads at most places I've looked. I bought a bag of about 250 of em on amazon for like $5. They're not that much.
