Hey guys im taking a road trip down to Minneapolis and I was wondering what the knife laws are in Minneapolis? Such as is my Spyderco Military or Spyderco manix 2 lightweight legal?

I believe Minneapolis says 4 inches when used as a Weapon.... Whatever that means. Also if you are going north on 35, a little south of mpls in the city of eagan the limit is 3.5

Edit: coming from canada forget the eagan part. There still are a few cities with their own random restrictions.

I live right around Minneapolis, as Dan said, anything under 3.5 should be fine throughout the state. The knife laws here are pretty loose here, I've never had any trouble using my blur in public, even in front of cops.

Is there a place anywhere in the cities (or suburbs) that sells knives, other than Gander Mountain and the like?

I think the "eagen" post was actually about Edina, "posh"-central when I was growing up, probably still is... I'd heard they had extraneous and ridiculous restrictions on all manner of tools.

There is (or was) an REI along 494 that sells knives, and the Mall of America previously hosted a couple of cutlery shops that even stocked the United Cutlery movie swords & knives, but it's been over a decade since I lived in MN (grew up in St.Paul). If you check google, there should be some military surplus and bait shops, and sporting goods stores around (e.g. Dick's), there certainly used to be, and even Walmart stocks some decent brands these days.

As a teenager, my group of friends was approached by a police officer in the MOA parking lot and he asked to see my knife - he noticed the clip on my pocket. I drew out and handed him a 4"-bladed hollow-grind, partially serrated american-tanto liner-lock that would flip open with a flick of the wrist. He openned it casually, felt the edge, closed it, and handed it back with, "Nice knife. Here's what I carry." I guess he was a knife guy  But don't assume that everyone is like that!

To mr jeffy in Hastings, I don't know your age but my friends from there all worked their way through highschool husking corn while I was flipping burgers, spinning pizza, and dishing out disingenuous customer service. I was sure jealous of them. They were darn good wrestlers as well!
