I had an E-mail asking how I store my knives, and what I use to keep them maintained. So here's my knife maintenance kit.

Everything is stored in a plastic tackle box with a padlock. Many slots; perfect for knives and accessories. Aside from the knives themselves, I keep a variety of items...

Each knife is stored in a Sack Up, which is a cotton bag impregnated with silicone. This prevents dirt and debris from getting into the knife, and helps prevent rust.

Every compartment has a small silica pack to absorb moisture.

I keep sharpening supplies in the top... a medium-grit diamond rod, a medium-grit dogbone sharpener, a fine ceramic rod, 1000-grit sandpaper, 1500-grit sandpaper, a strop, and a fine eraser for final polishing.

I keep two Kershaw Torx tools and a Benchmade Blue Box for all of those Torx screws, and a 3" magnet to hold them all while I'm working.

My lubricants consist of Tuff Glide and a small tube of Rem-Oil, along with a needle-tipped bottle of Break Free for when the action is really stiff. A Tuff Cloth is there for leaving a light coating of protection.

Cotton q-tips are included for getting into those tight spots, especially inside handles.

A tube of simichrome polish and a chamois for polishing are included for brightening the blade and polishing moving parts such as bushings.

A can of compressed air helps to blow debris out of the handle and inside tight sopts without disassembling the entire knife.

A Victorinox Classic SD gives me tweezers, a toothpick for really tight spots, a small file for removing pieces of rubber or plastic, and a sharp knife for random tasks.

A spare chamois cloth is there to lay all of my parts on while working so they don't roll away and are easily visible.

A ruler is handy to have for little things, such as prying handles apart after you've removed the screws, seeing if blades are straight, and of course, seeing how long things are (no jokes please ;) )

What do you use to keep your knives in top shape, and where do you keep it all?

Wow, I never really made up a tool kit... I'm kinda a tinker by nature and tend to have various tools either close at hand or in the garage. Although I do keep some militec, DMT stones and my homemade leather strop in my desk; I keep my actual knives seperate for the most part though.

Can you really justify an entire tool kit (unless your doing custom or commercial work), though? I mean I edc just like virtually everybody else here, and except for the once or twice a week touch up (<5minutes) those EDC may see a clean&lube only a small handful of times per year (except for my jogging folder, its gets rinsed out after each run, and relubed slightly less often than that).

I justified it to my wife by saying, "It's all stuff I have anyway, minus the new tacklebox. I might as well have it all together since it's all for the same purpose."

I'm constantly tightening and loosening for optimum performance; moving pocket clips around; cleaning pocket dirt off blades and out of pivots; rehoning edges; and just about everything else you can do to a knife. As soon as I get a new knife, I break it down, clean everything, polish the moving parts, lubricate, reassemble, adjust for blade tension, and sharpen.
