Good morning. Over the years I have sent my Fallkniven F1 to a member here for convex sharpening, and he always returned the knife to me razor sharp. But the older I get and the more paranoid I become, I keep thinking that there's always a chance that the post office will lose my knife in transit and that will be that.

So, does anyone here offer local convex sharpening in the Portland area? Or anyone know of a professional knife sharpening business around here?

I'm working overseas right now but my permanent home is in Bend. I wish I was around to help you out! That being said, there are a ton of good convex sharpening videos out there (full disclosure: the best ones are mine :D:D:D) and the F1 is especially forgiving.

Dunno how far this is from you but I have a Davison sharpened by them and it’s incredible and stable edge.

I live in Gresham, but do my own. Don't know of a sharpening service out this way.

Portland Knife House

2637 SE Belmont St, Portland OR.

Best knife sharpeners in Oregon.

They have more of a culinary focus but will do a solid job on your F1. Razor sharp.

Eli is one of the greatest sharpeners

Have you gotten a convex blade sharpened there before?

Here's another option. Get a cheap carbon steel knife like an Old Hickory. Get some assorted grits of wet/dry sandpaper at the auto shop, put a piece of cardboard under the wet/dry and convex it!

You wont have to worry about ruining the knife.
And you wont ruin the knife....eventually you will convex it. (If I can do it, anybody can...it is really based on being inaccurate and not having a steady "freehand" technique....super forgiving).
Then you can convex your knives yourself!

It's actually quite satisfying, especially if sharpening vee grinds has been frustrating.

Just a thought.

These guys are Pros, Sharpening an F1 convex would be an easy day for them.
I've never needed their service since I Sharpen my Fallkniven A1 and A1 Pro myself.

They are a very unique shop. Not just knife sharpeners, or pure kitchen knives even though that is there focus.

You won't find more overall knowledgeable knife people in Portland when it comes to making knives perform.

I go there for the awesome waterstone selection.

That's where I bought All my Choseras stones.

The are extremely knowledgeable about waterstone Sharpening.
Ask them questions they are happy to share and give you a primer on waterstone Sharpening and stropping.

They even have classes.

Go check em out.

Tell em Shawn sent ya.

Who sharpens your blades?

I do my own. I can get all my knives hair shaving. I can sharpen and re-profile a V edge, and can resharpen a convex. If you are looking for a re-profiling of your convex, I don't feel comfortable doing that to someone else's knife.
