Hello everyone! Will be visiting Houston end of the month for a few days, plan to get some knife shopping done.

Would anyone have recommendations about knife shops in that area or (long shot) any custom knife makers from there?

Would be great to hear any suggestions!

I would check and see if there is a High Caliber Gun and knife show at the convention center that weekend. Always a fun trip. Collectors firearms in NW Houston has a decent knife display and an even more impressive gun selection. Always enjoy going there. I know its not alot of help but its a start! Have a fun trip!

Get in touch with Jonathan McKenzie, he is a custom knife maker and does great work. I have a couple of knives from him. Most of his knives are made to order, but he does keep a handful in stock. You can see some of his work at www.gcnative.com

Thanks for the suggestions!

Forgot to add, any good gun ranges in Houston? Would love to try shooting!
My favorite gun range is Sportsman's Outlet. It's northeast on highway 59. Exit FM 1960, go east on 1960 about a mile and a half and it's on the right.
They have a nice shop there too. Lots of guns and a few quality knives.
For a good selection of knives I'd say Beckwith's, collector's firearms (that place has a TON of guns - old, new, used - top of the line stuff too. Entire display cases of Les Bear .45s etc.), and Carter's Country on Treaschwig road.

5 minutes down the road from Collectors firearms is Top Gun Indoor shooting range of Richmond I believe. Great place to shoot!

I went by Texas Knifemaker's Supply last weekend and picked up some steel and micarta. They had a nice selection of knives for sale. They had these DDR HTM knives I thought were really cool:

I ordered from Knives Plus in the past, they're in Texas, not sure how far from Houston.

Ten hour trip, you might not be looking forward to that.

Knives Plus is in Amarillo. I used to go there all the time. They have an absolutely fantastic selection of knives.
They will not steer you wrong or try to "hard sell" you either. If you tell them what you're looking for, they will do their level best to choose the best knife for your purposes.

Hi guys! Once again thanks for all the recommendations for Houston, ended up not having much luck with knives, but did visit Athena Gun Club, an indoor range not far from where I was staying.

Had an awesome experience there, their premises are large, modern, well cooled in the summer heat, and they had a comprehensive selection of firearms.

The staff were also friendly considering we were new to this and took some time explaining the weapons to us.

The retail section of the club mainly sold guns, but they had a selection of Benchmade and Zero Tolerance knives. Would definitely visit again next time to shoot off some rounds!
