Just curious. Anyone know of any good (particularly non-chain) stores that sell knives as their primary (or a large part of) their business in either of these two cities in Tennessee.

I am personally aware of one store in Chattanooga. It was an army surplus on Lee Highway. Limited selection, a lot of sub-par knives, and high prices. Otherwise a pretty good army surplus store. In Nashville, I know of one mall store in Hickory Hollow Mall (have not visited) and of another military surplus on Hillsboro Pike. Slightly better than the one in Chattanooga in regards to knives.

Any help in this area would be apprecitated.

Hey Bowzer, I live just outside of Chattanooga and truthfully I don't know of any good blade stores in the area.

I know that Mr Parker (of the current BULLDOG knives fame) has a small shop in Chattanooga. Its not really open to the public but if you were interested in buying then I know that if you call ahead he would let you come in and look around (as I have done this a few times).

There was one store in Nashville that had lots of CASE knives, but it may be the one that you already mentioned. I only visited there once and can't quite remember where it was.

There are also several very nice Custom Makers that live within a couple of hours drive of Chatt, but I understand that is not the same as being able to lesiurely browse and poke through alot of nice production stuff.

I guess we should count are blessings that we live so close to Atlanta (and the BLADE show). :D That way we are not totally left out!

I'll keep an eye on this thread as there may be some other Hillbilly that knows about a place that you and I have been missing.

I don't know about knife stores in Nashville but SMKW - one of the largest knife stores in the country is pretty close to you.
And, the Greatest Knife Show on Earth is only a couple of weeks away.
Both SMKW and the show - held twice a year - are in Sevierville.
It's a great knife day to see the show and stop by the store on your way out of town.

I am getting married near Sevierville next weekend....That shop is awsome!!!

Well worth the drive :D

I may be in Nashville soon...WHERE WHERE details!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As for the original post, there are 2 stores in the Opry Mills Mall in Nashville, one is a Case store and the is a Cutlery Store also, but I have always found the latter to be WAYYYYYY overpriced. There is a Bass Pro Shop in that mall also that has alot of knives.

Hey that shop in the mall is WAY over priced. The only place I have found in Nashville is the Bass Pro.
If you go to SMKWs you can stop in at Greenes Military in Knoxville.A little high on the prices of new stock but they have old stock that is hard to find at good prices. They have a good selection of BM ,Spyderco,Kershaw, kabar,Luminox,Surefire and lots of other stuff.

How good is this Greatest Knife Show on Earth? If I go to SMKW on a semi regular basis, will I see much that I don't normally see? Is it well attended by makers, both production and custom?

smkw is the best in the state...quite possibly the largest knife store around

most of the production brands...excluding some premium lines like chris reeve and william henry...prices so-so compared to the internet...but the ability to handle the knives is great and the people are very nice

in gatlinburg there is a store called the acorn that sells randalls at the average "markup" over msrp

there used to be a store in townsend that had an array of knives...some unexpectedly good

in nashville the best has been uselton's (formerly carousel cutlery)...guns and knives...owner collects customs and the quantity in stock widely varies...decent selection of nice production knives at full msrp..not been there for a year though. also a huge array of nice pumas and scandanavian knives

at opry mills there is bass pro, shepherd hills (case xx) and a high price store with benchmades spydercos etc...not been there for ayear either

the local flyshops have limited knives...cumbrland transit, flychucker, flysouth

friedmans (the army surplus) ...ok selection at full msrp

there was a store in lebanon that had a decent selection...it was at the "wal-mart" exit in a strip mall just before wal mart

gun stores also carry a smattering of knives...the nicest gun store being in franklin...franklin gun shop

The show is really neat. Not that many makers attend but the number of tables and types of bladeware is quite impressive. Seeing the show and then hitting SMKW is, for me, almost as enjoyable as attending Blade.

The store in Lebanon (The Knife Shack) has moved out of the Wal-Mart shopping mall, but is not far from that location. About 1 mile farther away from the interstate and on the left - follow the signs that are on the highway.

When and where is the Greatest Knife Show on Earth in Sevierville? I looked on SMKW's site and could find nothing about it. I will probably be going to Sevierville around the third week in June and would be interested in attending. I like SMKW. I have been there several times and have made a few purchases. I tend to get frustrated by them. You have to really look hard to find the good deals and much of their stock tends to be overpriced. Can't beat the selection though, and they are expanding!

I have also been interested by the possibility of finding the knife store in Lebanon, TN. I went there looking for it once and was not sucessful. I would still like to try to find it at some point. Also in Lebanon is Cuz's Antiques (on the town square). They carry a brand of traditional slipjoint called Fightin Cock. I have not checked them out, but I have not heard of this brand being sold anywhere else

With gas and some other prices at such a high level, I have been limiting my out-of-town travel recently and am buying more knives locally. One pretty good store with decent (still kind-of high) prices in my hometown. Nice proprietors though
