I will be in SLC this week on business, are there any nice knife stores in the area I can visit?

The Cutlery Corner has a shope in Sandy at the South Town Mall and on in Orem at the University mall. Info can be found here. The only offer about %10 off of MSRP. but they have a good selection and friendly staff.

Hi Don,
Look up L. Lorenz at 29 East 400 South in Downtown Salt Lake. It's a small storefront shop that's been in business for many years. They do sharpening, and they're geared toward serious user cutlery. No fantasy junk, gothic displays, or camo-dressed saleswarriors. Fixed blades, folders, bowies, some kitchen lines. They also usually try to have a limited number of Randalls and Ruanas and so on, but mostly it's production stuff.
I've bought from them and had various things sharpened there for about 15 years now.
No mall rent to drive prices up, no mall attitude to drive customers away.
Good luck, hope your trip goes well.

Besides those mentioned, Sportsman's Warehouse has decent prices and an adequate selection. Buck, Kershaw, Spyderco, Benchmade, CRKT, among others

Pretty good gun selection and other outdoor stuff.

Just off the TRAX line at 7200 South too.

I personally think the folks at Cutlery Corner have a better selection and are more interested in customers' than Sportsman's Warehouse. IIRC the prices are about the same - maybe going in favor of Cutlery Corner.

I concur that Cutlery Corner has a better selection. I disagree on price. SW is cheaper in my experience. Neither has particularly informed clerks to advise you abouth things.

SW does err on too many serrations with few plain edges.

I second DPris's vote for L.Lorenz. When I lived in Utah last (Logan) I used to visit them every time I went to Salt Lake City. They always had 10-15 Randalls. The best thing is they were very helpful and knowledgeable. The storefront isn't very impressive, but belies the inventory and professional people inside.

I lived in Salt Lake City from 1995 to 1998 and never knew of L. Lorenz. I agree that SW has better prices, but Cutlery Corner (especially the Orem store) has much better selection and service.

Poboy,
Come on back up, I'll show you where Lorenz is. It's not too late.
