Knife Storage

I'm looking for some advice about knife storage. I currently bought a Kershaw knife bag (thanks Dave) and have most of my knives stored in those pockets. I kept the knives that came in plastic bags and zippered pouches stored the same way then tucked into the knife bag. Everything will be stored in a safe with a dehumidifier. Am I doing any harm keeping those knives in their plastic bags and zippered pouches? Thanks for any advice.

Really wondering if I will do harm keeping them in the plastic bags, not so much about the zipper pouch.

I've been really fortunate that my wife is one that enjoys making little bags and carry pouches. She has made so many I have extras all the time that I store all my knives in. When I still made knives back in the 4th century BC (before clips) or so it seems anyway, I sold them in one of those handmade pouches she does. Turns out they are great for that and my entire collection is carefully wrapped in fitted clothing as a result. Before that I used wraps. I don't like them. They tended to beat up knives over time in my experience. I much prefer a felt wrap. Individual if possible or separate moisture wisking pockets to secure them in a rubber sealed box. I use ammo cans and really like the flat ones for the 20mm cartridges and load them up warm just like my father did before me. You heat the oven and let them sit in there getting so you have to pull them out with a mitt. Then after you close the lid they cool and the natural suction seals it further so you have a good lock to secure things you want to stay in good shape. Between this and the handy little wraps my wife makes I keep even my carbon blades in pristine shape. They are not out on display or anything but they are in great condition.

I keep every knife I don't use in the packaging it came in. Plastic bag and box. Those are stored in one of those multi-tiered plastic storage cases. So far, no problem.

i use these Plano clear plastic storage boxes that are sold at Home Depot for a few bucks. i line the bottom and walls of the six compartments in the box with bubble wrap and then place a piece of bubble wrap between the lid and compartments. works perfect for my needs and cheap to boot.

I used to keep em like this

With the dehumidifier you don't have anything to worry about, plastic bags are fine.

I guess u could say I was Chester's inspiration. 😉 I also use a sack-ups knife storage sleeve the 18 pocket model for some of my thinner and less expensive knives.

I want to get a wall hanging shadow box for my skyline collection and there is a small chest that has a shadowbox display top and drawers that one day I would like to get one of those

how do you do the cut out for the foam, precut?

thanks

Its Called Pluck and Pull.. Its Precut in Little Squares and you pull it out for the size you need.

Those little things are annoying to pull out, lol pick and pluck makes it sound so nice and easy. But it's nice knowing they won't come out unless you want them to

Thanks for the props Chester. ;)

Yeah they are a pain in the butt to pluck but i have found my knives have never felt more protected. I am realizing now that since I have many collections growing I should have got a bigger case for my LE Spydercos. I am currently looking for a bigger set-up for some of my LE knives and use this case for some of my more expensive knives.

I thought about doing this for my Military collection, but then again not such a good idea. Someone breaks in and you've left all your knives in a convenient, easy to carry package for the crooks.

What company makes the hard cases everyone uses here. I know it's not pelican. Tried to search posts, but Im at work and sneaking onto forum when bossman isn't looking:D
