Hay all, I'm traveling to New Orleans this week and was wondering if there are any good knife stores in the downtown area. I'll be at a convention and my transportation will be limited. Thanks in advance. chieftd

Short answer is no.

There is a Remington store in the River Walk Mall that has a few Benchmades and Spydercos at full retail. Just outside the city in Metairie there is an excellent knife store called Alpine Jewelry. Great selection and good prices for a retail store. There is no easy public transportation to there. At least two or more bus connections.

I live in the New Orleans metro area and have for 13.4 years.
I am disappointed to report that I have not yet discovered anything resembling a good knife store... unless you'd consider Williams Sonoma or Dillard's selection of Henckels kitchen knives of interest.

Best place I can suggest for strictly factory stuff, like BM, Spyderco, Kershaw, SOG, that ilk: Alpine Clocks, 1901 Veterans Blvd in Metairie (suburb), (504) 833-8332. That's right... a clock store that carries probably 200 different factory/production knives... dat's all we gots, brah!

(Alpine Clocks/Jewelry...same place)

I own about 80 knives, 60+ of which are custom, so that's a glimpse of what my slant on what is a "good" knife.

If you discover a good store in my back yard, by all means, please give me the clue!

Hey guys, Give Al Tinney at American Arms in Chalmette a look, he might surprise you.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I guess I'll just have to gamble and drink instead of looking at knives. Damn! Anyway, I'll be in "Nawlins" come Saturday.
