Anyone know of any? The economy certainly seems to have hit knife stores here pretty hard, every dedicated knife shop is gone, even the mall cutlery shops. I wonder what else is at work.

The only places I find anything at are the gun stores, Shooters World, SGC, Bear Arms (has some pretty good Benchmade prices). I even drove all the way up to Cave Creek to see that guy selling Microtech out of a Pen store.

There's Mr. Knife Guy down in Mesa, but his stock is light.

The large chains are not much help. Cabelas and Sportsman's Warehouse probably have the most, but nothing really special. Bass Pro Shops seems to have cut back on their knife stock and I can never seem to get someone to help me there. (also look behind the counter for a Paper Wheel Sharpening system in the worst shape imaginable.)

Any I missed or recommendations? Anything elsewhere in the state?

Shooters Vault, 32 st. & greenway.
They have a decent selection of crk, strider, emerson, spyderco, ect.

Bluelair I appreciate your drive to Carefree to check out the Microtech's. If you haven't been out for a while we have expanded our knife selection greatly. Also we are relocating our store to the Scottsdale Promenade Shopping Center in November with a large knife selection. Look for Penchetta Pen & Knife coming soon!!

But to address your question on knife stores, your right, the economy, economy & the economy have efeected all the mall smoke/knife stores big time. With the loss of individual equity, most Americans took a bath lately on their wealth. So you are not going to get the small business guy to go out and lay his cash out to open a store in this still week economy. Another big point hitting the small business owner is they are seeing their profit margins shrink to nothing when they are competing with the internet sales. So unless they establish a strong local trade and support they are doomed. I have made some big time adjustments on my own personal spending habits. I make it a point to buy LOCAL first. We just had a new gun store open up in our small town. I have made more than several purchases from them already. Our last local gun shop folded about 20 years ago! The big box stores assult on mom & pop stores was just as bad as the week economy. As convienent as they are, how many local pharmacies do you see lately? They have all become extinct but a few. I'm glad to say we still have one in our town. I could go on but don't want to sound like a rant. Buy American, Buy local.

I am really looking forward to the new store, and expanded knife selection, hope to see you make a visit.
