Knife to Keep in Car

Hello!

I have a multi-tool in my car at all times, but it has small, folded and blunt knife blades. I was thinking about keeping something bigger in the car to cut seat belts and dog harnesses/collars/leashes if need be. What would you guys suggest by way of type of blade/knife that would deliver, and do any of you keep knives in your car for this purpose?

Mora, cheap and reliable. I keep several around but don't keep a dedicated spare knife in the truck, though I do keep a machete in the back for clearing brush at archery ranges.

Thank you! I will definitely look into Mora.

A good knife for car and general knockaround stuff is the original DPx HEST fixed blade by Rowen. You can clip it on the jeans and go too..... Has a prybar that's as handy as the blade.

Hey, thank you! I will totally look into this!

We live in very different places.... I keep an Ontario Bowie in the door for defense, a Custom S90V Nessmuk in the console for cutting whatever comes up, a machete in the back for cutting small trees in the road/various other tasks and an axe in the back for big trees in the road.... The point is, start carrying something. Over time, you will figure out what works best for you.

How about the Gerber Hinderer Rescue knife? That will get you out of a bind for sure not to mention your seat belt

Thank you! Yes, we do live in very different places. I might have to look into what is legal to keep in the car, too, as I admittedly am not too up-to-date with laws regarding that...

Downed trees are not a super-frequent occurrence around me. That being said though, we had a rain storm a while back, and the drought-starved trees and loose dirt didn't hold up so well. Brought out the Fiskars splitters for that, but that wasn't even something I would consider an inconvenience.

Hey, thank you!

I am making a list of all these suggestions to look into. I appreciate everyone's input. Keep 'em coming!

Got a couple things in my car. A sak, usually for opening lunch from the store. A folding saw, which had come in handy a few times for downed branches, and a utility knife, cuz I had a spare. I have one of those ResQMe cutters, too.

I keep an ESEE 3 in both of my cars. They're solid enough to trust in an emergency and big enough for most tasks. Also they're relatively inexpensive so if my car was broken into (I live in a city) I could easily replace them.

Oh, awesome. I have my grandad's old folding saw, but I'd rather not risk the tetanus! :D

I hear you on the replaceable factor. That was something I didn't take into consideration. Thanks!

I've got an Victoronox Alox Cadet in the cupholder, a 20" camp axe, and a silky gomboy 210 in the trunk. Plus I've always got a griptilian or a small sebenza in my pocket

I just pictured you as someone with four arms wielding all of those at the same time. Haha! Thank you for sharing what you have! I have some Googling to do.

Crappy mtech with seatbelt cutter and and window breaker is in mine but then again if it gets taken (not allowed to have locking knives on campus and parking lot is on my high school campus) oh no I'd be out five bucks

I keep a 4 inch fixed blade, a custom Ranger (when Justin Gingrich owned Ranger, NOT Ontario. and Justin made it for me.), and Victorinox Rescue knife, and knifeless Fuse, as well as 2 Sure Fire flashlights.

Mora Companion in Sandvik stainless. Its like $15 or less. Its sharp as can be and if something happens to it its only $15. Also, its a mora so it will last. I see no reason to keep a high dollar knife in your car. If you need more of a sharpened pry bard there is the becker BK3. http://www.kabar.com/knives/detail/7

You can get it much cheaper than that, but you get the idea.
