What kind of knife is Lucas Miller on Alone using? It looks like a thick pipe beaten into a knife. Anyone know who made it?

Pretty sure it's not the Condor, unless they made a design change in a later production run. I have the Matagi, the socket is actually oval shaped, not nearly as round as the one in those pictures.

here is a pic I managed to get for the knife....I would like to know too...

Isn't it Stormcrow who does a lot of blades with the handles formed like this? I am tired and might be completely off base, but the big pic certainly brings some of his style to mind. His stuff looks a lot better, but it is hard to tell from captured pics vs. well-lit staged pics. If you have a burning desire to know, craftsmen tend to keep tabs on stuff with a similar style and he might be amenable to a few questions. Apologies to all if I am pointing in the wrong direction.

I just asked Lucas what knife he had on the show and he told me it was forged by Jason Hawk of Outlaw Cutlery - the guy that was on History's No Man's Land. I found Lucas on Facebook and asked about the knife and he was kind enough to reply:

"It's a custom forged knife, made by Jason Hawk of outlaw cutlery. Inspired by the hand forged blades of Indonesia , as well as the open face sheath, suited for wet environments . The hollow handle allows for an ever ready handle (no pins to break, etc) as well as a receiving space for a staff to convert into a spear . It also was built to be a pipe , in case medicine was needed to get into the lungs, if I got sick . About a 9" blade, forward heavy , great chopper, etc. Actually , it's quite balanced. Now that I handle it again. I usually use smaller blades in the bush, but the weight and the ability to hack and process brush for shelters was indispensable . I love smaller blades for crafting, traps, game, but I would take I knife like this again, of I could only take one blade ."

Very cool of him to reply. Thanks for updating us.

Thank you very much, I didn't actually think about emailing these guys.

Thanks for that! Had a fellow ask if it was one of mine because of the socket handle. Not a lot of US makers using that construction, and even fewer making the hikot-style sheath (open board scabbard that allows moisture to drain and dry easily). I was guessing it was a Filipino made rig since that's the region where that kind of setup comes from.

Personally, going into a similar situation, I would choose a socket handled bush sword with about a 13"-16" blade. Without having gotten to watch the show (no cable or satellite TV), looks like Lucas chose well.

I want to get the Cold Steel or Condor version of that knife to play with.

Honestly, those logs are a bit large to be batoning them with a knife. Where's his axe?

I am very impressed with the woodcraft ting skills lucas showed on the show. Canoe, yurt, ukulele thing...impressive.

I was watching the finaly last night. At the end when the winner was back home picking mushrooms with his family he pulls out an endura (I think). It was definitely a spyderco of some sort.
