Knives Actually Designed by Warriors for Combat

I was just thinking, looking at a Ka-Bar, what knives are out there that were actually designed by warriors for hard use in theater. I can't think of a lot...

  • The new Buck 245
  • The Grayman knives
  • The Peltonen Sissipuukko
  • The Strider knives?

What others are there?

I'm a combat infantry veteran so I'll contribute.

Experimental dedicated pikal.

The original Masters of Defense knife company. Based in North Carolina. The company ran 1998--11/2003. Purchased by Black Hawk in '03 and the products dumbed down "in order to reach the deserving ....blah blah blah...but who could not afford the previous models." Or something like that.

5 models, (1 fixed, 4 folders) all designed by combat instructors, SEAL, Delta, etc. Fixed, utility, dagger, tactical and karambit. Each designer a currently well known name.

The box set of the 5 models is one of my grails. Pretty rare where they've stayed together as a set--I own a Trident ltd. edition numbered folder of the series and am always looking for more. Awesome knife.

The five designers didn't stay together long but what they produced were great knives:
•Lady Hawk karambit (Graciella Casillas-Boggs)
•Tempest folder (Michael Janich)
•Razorback fixed blade(Massad Ayoob)
•Trident folder(Chief "Patches" Watson)
•Hornet folder(James Keating)

I believe Black Hawk still uses the brand name and perhaps some of the original model names. The knives I write about are NOT Black Hawk "Masters of Defense" models.

EMERSON KNIVES.
CQC-7, Commander, CFK, etc.....

I believe the Spyderco Warrior and its earlier predecessors was designed by combat experienced veterans. Mike

Everything made by Mantis!

...That hurt to type. :barf:

Real answer, the first few that come to mind are the kukri, p'kal, karambit, and tanto.

Boker Applegate- Fairbairn, Smatchet, Fairbairn-Sykes Fighting Knife (some call it the British Commando Knife) for a couple.

Gerber Mark II was designed by Army Captain Bud Holzman. I had one once, wish I had it back.

Fairbairn-Sykes British Commando Knife... It's a nearly perfect killing Stiletto! (Ya just gotta love those "happy-go-lucky" Brits!) ;):D

Here's another... I made this a few months ago.

I carried a bad ass, hard use Leatherman in the Persian Gulf. Used and abused and saved my backside more than once! Perfect tool for the Abrams tank crew.
