The original Masters of Defense knife company. Based in North Carolina. The company ran 1998--11/2003. Purchased by Black Hawk in '03 and the products dumbed down "in order to reach the deserving ....blah blah blah...but who could not afford the previous models." Or something like that.
5 models, (1 fixed, 4 folders) all designed by combat instructors, SEAL, Delta, etc. Fixed, utility, dagger, tactical and karambit. Each designer a currently well known name.
The box set of the 5 models is one of my grails. Pretty rare where they've stayed together as a set--I own a Trident ltd. edition numbered folder of the series and am always looking for more. Awesome knife.
The five designers didn't stay together long but what they produced were great knives:
Lady Hawk karambit (Graciella Casillas-Boggs)
Tempest folder (Michael Janich)
Razorback fixed blade(Massad Ayoob)
Trident folder(Chief "Patches" Watson)
Hornet folder(James Keating)
I believe Black Hawk still uses the brand name and perhaps some of the original model names. The knives I write about are NOT Black Hawk "Masters of Defense" models.
EMERSON KNIVES.
