Knives Allowed on Carnival Cruise Lines?

Has anyone had any experience with Carnival Cruise Lines?

I'd like to take a Spyderco Pacific Salt on a cruise that I'll be taking in about a year, but I might try to procure a smaller Spyderco Salt I.

Their website says that knives are allowed with a blade less than four inches, but some posters on travel pages claim that they have had to deposit their knives, especially serrated ones, with the ship security for the trip.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

I've taken a couple of Carnival cruises lately. I never took the knife on and off the ship at each port. It was in my checked luggage, and when I unpacked in my room, I carried it only when on the ship. I never had a problem but I only used it occasionaly for the odd task or two of opening a clamshell package or cuttting an errant thread on my pants or wife's dress.

You do go through metal detectors and carry on bags are x-rayed at each port.

If you carry the folder in a pocket while going through the metal detectors they will harass you. They do not want people openly carrying on the ship. If you put a folder in your checked bags it is best, second best put it inside your carry on bag.
I would suggest that if you carry knife keep it inside a pocket, no clips. Security may ask you to leave the knife with them for duration of cruise if they see the clip. They want everyone to feel safe, so why do you need a knife.
I have spoken to security people who say one of the biggest reasons they throw people off the cruise is for weapons.
I have also taken a diving knife, fixed blade but like 6" blades, in a sheath in checked bags and it passed. it helps to have snorkel, flippers, etc.
I would never brandish the weapon or use it at dinner this would be trouble with security.
Swiss army knife tends to be ignored by them in carry on.

Mine went with the checked baggage (no custom knives, please!!!). I did NOT take it out of the ship to the islands.

I walked on with an Emerson CQC-7 (3.3" blade) and it didn't even set the metal detectors off! I did this both in California and in Mexico!

Still, makes most sense to place it in your lugage and avoid any possible confrontation or getting it comfiscated.
