Anyone know anything about Knives By Hand kukris and do you own one? They look interesting. In the market for a kukri on the traditional side and came across this company. Any other recommendations are appreciated.

I don't have a Kailash but if I needed a kuk that is where I'd go. Himalayan Imports are good too (I have several) but heavy.

The ones I have are a Service #1 from GK&CO Kukri House (EGKH: hand forged by the Kami/Biswakarma castes) and a smaller Police Service from Nepalese Handicraft Zone (NHZ factory in Angkhola Village in Eastern Nepal). Owning a kukri is definitely about wanting to have a piece of that culture near you and nothing to do with practicality. It's like when Joe Flowers talks about machetes: you're never going to use one with the same fluency as the people who grow up with one in their hands. They're generally made of leaf spring steel (5160), and for someone who didn't grow up using one the weight and balance feel strange. I might get another one some day.

Knives by Hand have been in the game for a long time.
While I haven't handled any of their blades I've heard that they have a reputation for being solidly built and having Frank at the helm within the US can certainly make a smoother customer service/ shipping experience than buying from one of the nepali houses making similar blades (egkh, khhi etc).
If you have any specific needs for your khukuri I can advise on what kind of model, length etc could be best for you.
Take care,
Andrew and the team at Kailash
