Knives that easily become spears .

:) I recently ordered a Cold Steel Bowie Bushman for ~$20 .

I've wanted something like this for many years , just never got one .

Of course , many fixed blade knives can be somehow lashed to a stick / pole to make a spear , assuming you know how and have some cord , vine etc .

But some knives are purpose built to be mounted on a spear shaft .


Any experiences or constructive thoughts to share ?
 
A spear is for stabbing, a javelin is for throwing. A pike is a spear that requires two hands.

I am the king of useless, random knowledge. Aside from being the everlasting know-it-all, I believe Becker has a spear tip knife thingy designed to be lashed to a pole, screwed to a broomstick handle etc.

Now, I would like to see a picture of this spearish creation. But just don't include the part with you brandishing it while running around the neighborhood in a loincloth.
 

At 0:55 seconds, you can see a screw holding the blade on the stick. Make sure you have a few screws + cordless drill + charged battery in your post apocalyptic world (did you notice the background pic?)

Despite the cheesy, mall ninja marketing, I'm a CS fan. They make a good knife for the $. I love my CS Ultimate Hunter and Recon 1.

The ready made blades for attaching to a wood shaft have always been appealing to my kid self. I think if you carry such a blade in the woods, it would behoove you to keep some lashing material with the other stuff you carry. As of yet, I have not succumbed to this urge. I wouldn't throw a spear like this, maybe only in an absolute last ditch emergency....
 
Somewhere I read that you use the screw hole on the Bushman to keep the shaft from wedging in too tight, not to keep it from coming out.

The schrades are pretty doggone good for the price. My wife and daughter got me one for Christmas a few years ago. HEAVY and a bit clunky, but I don't think I would be able to break it even throwing it. I have yet to figure out a use for mine, but its not because it's a bad knife.

:) This makes sense to me if using for throwing or thrusting . This would tend to repeatedly jam the pole deeper into the knife .

IIRC , I've seen some user reviews that said they indeed had trouble getting the pole extracted out of the knife after using as a spear .

I thought a pike was a pole arm with a point but no edges, good for thrusting only. (But very good at that.)

I'm very good at that too. :eek::rolleyes:

Spears generally were the same. It was the halberd that had a blade. All were replaced by the bayonet.

I think if countries had to back to fighting with melee weapons their would be less large scale war. It would be kinda hilarious to see a war like that on the news.
 
Simon says , make this knife into a machete , javelin , boar spear , etc. :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

 
ATM,Can't think of any knives that can be lashed to a stick to make a spear but I know there are some pocket knives that can be.
