Krudo DAO

It looks cool...but, dang that's heavy. I don't think the materials match the price and I'd be worried about F/F on an unknown name. For half the price (at least), I might try one out.

I'm not encouraged by the tone of the glowing reviews either. Of the seven reviewers, at least three seem to know the designer personally so I'm not certain there's much objectivity there...

Wow, I hadn't even looked at the weight. Glad you pointed that out; that's more of a deal breaker than the steel for me. Thanks for the input; I was hoping to be talked out of this one, and I think I am now.

Well, fellas, I couldn't resist. Got one for $100 from Amazon (credit card discount). Will update when it arrives! I think at that price its a serviceable steel, and the blade is closer to 4 inches, albeit the cutting edge is about 3.25. I was sucked in by the "wave" feature, just like I was with Emerson/Kershaw CQC, Cold Steel Immortal and Talon, etc. Crossing my fingers, as best I can after getting 5 stitches today from trying to get fancy with a Krudo Snag. D'oh!

Dammit...I've got one on the way, too.:D It's too weird to pass up. I'm fine with 9CrWhatever steel and with the weight. Heck, I've been carrying my 10oz 4-MAX since getting it last week. I came across this knife last year, but then I forgot about it. Thanks to the OP for reminding me.

9cr18mov? That's one while extra cr and 5 whopping mov's than 8cr13mov. This steel must be amazing.

Seriously though Krudo has some neat designs. I know nothing of their quality though. Please let us know how the knife is when you recieve it.

Wergund, you said you have a Krudo snag knife? How is the quality?

Vid of the Dao (posted just today, strangely enough). It's in French, but it has some good views of the knife:

interesting, I modified a couple of Kershaw junkyard dog knives back in the day to a very similar profile but without the massive blade thickness of this bad boy!

In this day of many many excellent folders from quite a few well known and well established manufacturers (ZT, Benchmade, Spyderco, Hinderer, CRK, and even Cold Steel), my money will generally not go to less known/new players that ask for prices comparable to those above.

Glad to see a few of you have picked one up. Hope to see your thoughts on them when they arrive. Thanks for being the guinea pigs here!

The Krudo Knives "About Us" web page checks every box for "super-slick mall ninja asshole knife" brand.

Why can't people just say:

We like knives and we designed some we think you might buy from us. They're made in China.

Instead, we get a poem about a ninja master who once stood in a machine shop.

"Grasshopper, when you can snatch the acetylene torch from my hand, it will be time for you to leave." :D

I didn't read that until you mentioned it. It did elicit a chuckle or two, but at least there's no mention of clean rooms or of superhuman heroics while serving as a Cub Scout Team 6 sniper.

Got the knife today. Fit and finish are excellent, blade is stoopid sharp, and it deploys well with any of the methods shown in the vid. Lock up is good and solid also, with no play. So far so good. I'll post some pics when I get a chance (maybe tomorrow night).

I have one of these. Its an outstanding knife and has great action and fit and finish. It's actually turning out to be one of my favorites. The only thing is, as someone said, it is heavy...like STUPID heavy. It doesn't bug me in jeans and I consider it as nice as some of my nicest knives, but dang is it heavy. the handles are heavy, but the blade also could function as a mini cleaver it has so much weight behind it. Despite that, it has a nice, high, flat grind and can still cut well. I don't mind the steel so far, but it is lower end for the price point. They seem to have put the money into the rest of the quality and I am happy with it. The handles are gorgeous and unique and I love the look of bolsters.

Summary: Only thing wrong with it is weight, but damn its a brick.

Oddly enough, it was a ninja master who introduced me to the knife.
