Good Afternoon. Has anyone had any experience with ordering through Kukrihouse.com as someone has mentioned that they have bought 2 from here before. I need a few more reviews really before I commit to buying from them. Is there any companies that anyone recommends more for quality functioning customised Kukri/Khukuri?
Thanks in advance.

I would direct you to Kailash Blades for custom Khukri. They are doing stellar work, and very open to custom work.

Check their Instagram for examples. There have been glowing reviews of their work. They are willing to do kydex and micarta, guards, etc....

Or Himalayan Imports who has a sub forum here. I have two of their khukries and they are great. They tend more toward overbuilt in some of their designs. The two I have from then are more traditional.

The khukri on the left and right are from HI.

I got my first kukri in 2009 or 2010 from Khukuri.com , it was a Jungle model with NKH engraved on the blade. Still have it and use it today. Good blade, good steel, and hold a very good edge. Another good Khukuri house is Kukri Palace Khukuripalace.com . I asked them for a few customs they still have on their website and asked for thinner/more accurate Jungle and Service No.1 models and all came back as I requested.

Of course HI will also do customs and have many variations of their stock models coming in all the time they will please just about anyone. They are high end even in their stock models. As mentioned Kailash Blades also has great reviews, although I don’t have one of their kukri yet.

Good luck.

What kind of Khukuri are you thinking of? What will you use it for? :)

About KH (KHHI):
Pros: They have been around quite a while, many options and good availability.
Neutral: Have physical shops in Kathmandu. Not the best, not the worst.
Cons: Rather poor execution of historical patterns, seem to focus alot on other things then Khukuris. Mediocre in quality and build, somewhat of a lottery.

I would go with Kailash, customs and semicustoms is what they do. Always.

For wilderness survival and bushcraft. Are Great Ghurka Khukuri good? You recommended Kailash, that is helpful and very much appreciated thank you!

For Kailash I would say:
Pros: The cool new kids on the block, wide variety of options and customization, a very easy ordering system. Good communication and customer service. Open to new ideas, customization is their thing. Orange micarta handle anyone?
Neutral: A modern take on Khukuris in terms of design and materials. Kydex and Micarta. Dont supply karda and chakmak unless upon request. Also sells other blades.
Cons: May be percieved to be modern for some, to far away from traditions, their standard scabbards (dap) dont feel or look as sturdy as some competitors but seem to have improved.

For me I am mostly into traditional Khukuris but for blades with Micarta, Kailash does a very good job.

I think Khukuris as being very individual, will the Khukuri be used as the only tool, or as part of a system with a small foldable saw for instance? Will it replace an axe etc? So think of how you will use it and whats important for you. Long slender blade with reach, heavy duty Khukuri with fulltang, they come in so many shapes. My favourites are small/medium sized ones of light or medium weight.

There are truly so many companies around, some are not to impressive, a lot are ok and a few are very good. GGK I dont have any experience of, I know of many that seem happy with their work but I have never been as interested as actually buying one from them.

Many to choose from, but I think you could start having a look at Kailash, if they arent what you are looking for, there are other options.

Thanks for the input guys!
L LordFlashheart For wilderness survival and bushcraft blades we usually suggest blades of small to moderate size. These are less tiring to carry/use and are handier for finer work like carving and skinning etc. Some examples could be an 11.5" hsi which is an excellent all rounder that's not too hefty.

Or maybe a 9.5" HSI/mini for something even more compact.

We also have customers who in these situation prefer sirupate style blades for their lower weight at larger lengths. This helps with brush clearing and keeping weight manageable- like this 14" sirupate here.

Finally there's a subset of person who's looking for a larger, hardier blade to serve as a hatchet replacement.
13" or even 15" is common for this range, with models ranging from our modern scourge anniversary through to a full tang traditional blade like our panawal or a Fort William mk1. Here's some pics of one of our customer's 15" panawal that fits a similar role.

If you give us a little more info about the kind of tasks you're looking to have your blade perform and what's important for you with the blade we can give you some guidance on any standard models we have or custom options that could be a great fit :)
Take care,
Andrew and the team at kailash.

I have bought a couple from https://www.khukuriblades.com/ they are based in Thamel, Nepal. I bought a large one for my father, and 1 large and 1 small for myself. They are excellent blades, and they will even do custom work if you can draw it out for them. Shipping is usually $35 from Nepal to the US, but it's tracked and insured.

I know this is a 6 month old thread, and I have no idea what the OP ended up buying. But in case he is still on the fence, I can't speak to the quality of KHHI's khuks as I don't own one, but I do own a KHHI bowie.

It is a quality piece for the price. Nice steel, sharp edge and generally well-crafted. It's a bit rough around the edges, but that shows that it was made by a person, not a machine and I'm fine with that.

That being said, definitely check out Kailash as well.
