KW Exclusive Military CF/Ti S90V + CQI Improvements

OK, guys, here it is. It's unbelievable how quickly this baby got here. I placed the order around 2:30 PM Thursday and it was out the door and scanned by USPS in Columbia, LA before the close of business. It was in my PO box here on Cape Cod, MA just after 8 AM this morning.

So, this one is sure sweet enough with its giant slab of sandblasted Ti, really nice peel-ply CF, and the a gorgeous Military blade in S90V. Like a few have mentioned, this one was surprisingly stiff out of the box, but I fooled with the pivot, added a couple drops each side of 10W NanoOil, and a dot of FinishLine on the detent ball. She's breaking in, flicking open nicely now, and free-dropping on release, though there's quite a bit more lockbar pressure on this knife than my other two Millies. Those I've kept really clean and babied so far, but this one's destined to be a user. It'll look good with some snail trails on that Ti side.

Good score! Maybe it is just how this model is set up, both of mine were not as smooth as other models of Military out of box. Not gritty just a bit tight. Just needs a bit more time to break in.

Both of mine were tight out of the box. I just used mine and didnt fiddle with them. The user has broken in. I dont flick them open so its not a big deal. They are both very smooth though

Also i have found that it feels lighter opening it lefty ( i am southpaw) because i am not at all pushing on the lockbar when opening it. When holdin right handed my middle finger puts extra tension on the lock. Lefty there is no extra pressure and you are actually pushing the blade away from the lockbar

While I certainly do not recommend Spydie flicking this knife (or any largish folder for that matter) in a public environment for the obvious reasons, I'd also admit that fidget playing with it while on secluded walks on the trails with my German Shepherd is an essential part of the fun of owning this unit :D

P.S. no fidget playing in the car either :p

I've got a lot of Ti framelocks and, being a righty, am pretty much used to avoiding pressure on the lockbar. I think the thing with this knife is more a strong detent than tight pivot. I did back it off just a taste and lubed it, which helped, but the knife is breaking in nicely. That little taste of grease on the detent ball helps too.

Curiously, this one sings a bit when opening like some liner locks do, notably a couple of my Tenacious (Tenaci?) and my GM3. I think the CF serves as sort of a sounding board, much like the double-sided CF on my essentially linerless Shiro 111 accentuates the sort of whooshing sound it makes when flipping open. I think in the case of this Millie the sound is a product of the heavy locker pressure through the opening arc.

I'm not complaining, though, as the knife is gorgeous and highly functional. I think it's my favorite Military out of four so far. The strong detent actually makes this one easy to middle-finger Spydie flick, a skill that I've had little luck with on other knives. I'm with Casinostocks about not thwacking this one open in certain situations so as not to strike fear into the general populace.

Dear Sir Charles :p

Interesting observation about that whooshing or whatever sound! I never noticed it but then again, I don't have too many other knives with the same sorta heft to compare this one to but knowing that you own a bevy of many, many more folders ranging anywhere in the spectrum; I do not doubt your findings. On the middle finger flicking ability, some of my past PM2s may have been a tad easier for me but since I currently do not have any PM2s (I just prefer my hiking folders to have a bit longer blade and a bit more heft) this CF/Ti Millie is by far easier than both my Lum-Tanto and my Slysz Bowie and it rockets open with much more authoritaaa!

I know the sound you are talking about and I love it. It has become less noticeable over time, but I have a job where I can fidget with my knives when no one is around so my first one has been opened and closed thousands of times.
I just got my second one yesterday and it has that wicked swish/hiss.

I bet it’s already been mentioned somewhere else but I’ll ask anyway; anyone swap the blade out with any other new CQI millies? I know the KW 204P and BHQ M4 blades swap with eachother, so I wonder if the RIL titanium slab changes things at all. Not even all that excited about the S90V in there but I love my M4.

Several have posted that they did theirs; I’m fine with s90v though, but I also carry Millie’s with cruwear, cts-204p.

Lol. Sorry I brought it back up.

But yeah, it's too good to pass up. That knife, material combo for that price you need at least one. Lol.

Are we selfishly trying to get them sold out before we “have to” buy yet another! I see them going on the exchange for less than $200, and I apologize to those who don’t like it. But it’s still the best deal I’ve ever seen, with the possible exception of some discontinued Taiwan folders that were 68% off!

I spec'd the orig M4 Military for Roger at KW in 2009.
Then pushed for this one every year till it was released.
The problem was the gap between runs. After 7-8 yrs I guess it wasn't that big of a deal.
But if it had come out in 2011, it would have quite the knife.
Still a favorite, and glad it was produced. But it's not quite the same hobby as it was back then.
Enjoy!

Do you mean the Millie has lost popularity to the pm2 or countless other brands? Because I love seeing new Millies, even if they’ve been done similarly before. Cruwear, 3v, bright (or dark) g-10!I am glad this one happened, bought five and haven’t broken the first one yet!
