Hello,
I am wondering if anyone knows about Laguiole knives. I have a set of 6 Steak Kives, all with FRANCE etched on them and the Laguiole stamp has a big L stamped over the name in the center. The knives have the Bee and the Shepherds Cross. Are these genuine and what is the set worth? Purchased back in about 2002-2005. I don’t remember where - maybe Williams Sonoma or France or England.
Thanks for your knowledge and time!

You can't ask about value without a BF membership but I think I can tell you that there are hundreds of LAGUIOLE knife makers out there. Some are very reputable companies with solid name brands. FRANCE & an L, as a makers mark just scream - no brand knock off.

I could be wrong.

Thanks so much! I am hoping that they’re the real deal. Last night I paid for a basic membership, so I’m hoping that someone might be able to give me a value if that’s allowed.

These are the knives if anyone has a value for them. There are 6 in a box. Thanks.

Good write-up on the branding of Laguiole knives. Bottom line: it is just a type of knife. The name itself is not protected. The closest you will find to a genuine article is "Forge de Laguiole" which are still made in the actual town bearing that name. That logo on your set looks a LOT like theirs, probably intentionally with the big "L" on it, but leaves off the "Forge de" prefix.

So, considering that it is not possible to actually forge something that has no official definition of authenticity, I would say those are low cost imitations of one of the big three legit brands.
