Hey BF I’m just wandering if there are any differences to the lansky pucks for axe sharpening? Is one better then the other? I’m just trying to sharpen a winkler and don’t want to ruin it as I’m a beginner at axe sharpening, thank you all.

the one I know of and have used is the dual grit one....is there other ones now?

the dual is 120 one side i think and 220 or so other side I think.....going by memory. I use it dry and it cuts decently enough.

there is a maintenance and sharpening forum on this site. I expect this will get moved there by a mod eventually.

As above.
Have the dual grit puck and wasnt aware of other puck models.
Likewise use it dry.
I like the puck for field sharpening, its handy and compact.

I too have the 120/220 Lansky Dual Grit puck, which I also use dry. I don't think it removes material fast enough to ruin an axe edge to the point you couldn't just fix it with the same puck. If you are afraid of wrecking a good axe, go get a cheap hatchet from Harbor Freight and go to town--cheap and dull is a good combo for training. There are a bunch of good threads on axe sharpening in the Ax subforum, too.
