Just saw UST's video of the new lansky world legal knife that was announced at shot show. What do you think about this knife? All legal aspects aside, what is your .02 on this new knife? I think at $21 it would be a nice thing to get one to own and give the other away. I like the 440C over some MOV steel. I like the 90 degree stop which is a nice safety feature j.i.c. Some non-knife person picks it up to give you a hand with some chore. I think the concept is pretty cool; i really want to feel the texture of the scales to see how grippy it is.

This is my first time hearing of it but I like the look of it. I'd definitely pick one up if I lived in a European country or a less "free" state. I'm not sure if its really good to call it a world legal knife since some places you can't have anything with a blade at all but at least this would work for a lot of people. Also, I totally forgot/didn't realize that Mikkel Willumsen was making any knives with Lansky anyway. I like the look of the others too and I'm sure they'll be a little higher quality than the ones from United Cutlery.

If I'm going to carry a slip joint I'll carry a traditional. You can have a better looking, less intimidating knife, and you can also have multiple blades in a smaller package.

As far as modern traditional hybrids go I prefer friction folders like peasant knives.

Its like one size fits all, it may say that but it really doesnt. If I needed a "world legal" knife I would rather carry a case peanut or a sak than this, it has more blades and/or tools which means more versatility and of course looks 10x better:D Im carrying one of my peanuts now anyways, they are fun little knives.

I pre ordered one about a month ago I'd say, just waiting for it to arrive, I'll post some pics and reviews when I get it.

It'll be great for my next deployment.

Here's a problem I have with this:

2.75" blade, 7" overall. It's tiny. And the thing weighs... wait for it... six ounces. Wtf? that's more than a ZT0560.

And here's another problem with it: the blade thickness. It's 7mm thick, that's 0.276". why would such thickness be necessary on a slipjoint?

Is it supposed to actually cut things, or just mash through them with brute force?

If it had a normal thickness and wasn't such a brick it might be kinda interesting, it's only $21 and kinda reminds me of a Dodo or Yojimbo.

Interesting knife for sure.
And the price is no dealbreaker.

My thoughts exactly, for a knife of that size it has to be a very good slicer otherwise its kind of pointless to be small but so thick and heavy. When I want a heavy duty knife (and I usually do) I will go for a zt 200 or something, I like overbuilt but usually only when the knife is already a large size and this lansky is not. I dont know what they are trying to accomplish but theres tons of other knives I would rather have if I needed to be legal in very strict places because they will function better and look better.

It looks interesting, but I think SAKs are a much better choice for a "world legal knife". I do a fair bit of travelling, whenever I'm not sure about local knife laws, I drop a SAK in my pocket. Even at places where knives aren't usually allowed, nobody looks twice at a SAK.

Yup

Would have been more appealing if it was sub-3mm-thick and looked kinda like this:

7mm is just ridiculously thick though. That's like full-size kukri thickness in a tiny 2-3/4" blade... with no lock.

With that kinda stock thickness, I kinda wish they'd gone with a friction folder, rather than a slip joint... I'm not sure if that would've affected the broad legality of the knife, though...

they should of at least put a finger guard on it, but that is one ugly knife and I have no use for it because where I live we could carry locking blades of any length.

it also looks like the average joe will have a hard time figuring out how to sharpen that blade shape.

Why do people say it's 7mm? It doesn't look that thick, at all, in the video I've seen. It looks 4-5mm, at most. Of course, it's hard to gauge the thickness of a blade in a video, but based on the size of the blade, 7mm would look extremely thick. There are very, very few folders with such a thick blade; GTC's folders, and that Titan folder, TankKnives folders, are the only ones I know of that are 7mm or above.

Here are some pictures:

I don't know where the 7mm thickness came from

Looks like I might have spread some misinformation then  oops.

I got that info straight from the designer's own posts on the British forum. Maybe I misunderstood him.
