lanyard beads?

Cannot believe I haven't asked this before. I figure this could make for an interesting experiment. How would you guys feel about lanyard beads? Like 'em? Hate 'em? Don't care for 'em? Is it something you'd pay extra for if done tastefully? Maybe a Celtic cross lanyard bead? This is just purely hypothetical btw. I haven't spoken to Darrel about this at all. It may or may not happen, but I would guess if people really want them, Darrel would consider it.

I don't like/use lanyards on any of my knives, so I wouldn't be interested.

I'm with you on this. In fact I've been meaning to email Darrel about my custom, because I don't want a lanyard hole on the handle. I still wanted to see what people here thought as an option, perhaps. I know lots of people like 'em, not so much as a functional thing, but more as another means of customizing a knife, like the Starlingear beads for example.

They can be very cool for cool sake. Done correctly, they can add a nice finishing touch to a knife. I prefer the practical side of aiding with grip or handle dimension. I use them a lot on my smaller key ring knives. Depending on the knife putting 1-3 beads extends the grip of the knife when in use, then just lay over out of the way when not in use.

I find that even people who have lanyards on their knives don't really use them, unless the knife is short-on-handle and they need extra gripping surface. From what I've seen, knife lanyards are more frequently used as "bling real estate", giving collectors more space with which to tart up their favourite EDCs.

That being said, I think a set of premium options (such as custom pivots, special pocket clips, off-sets, and the like) would be a better route for Darrel's designs. Something to accentuate the natural beauty of his designs while remaining faithful to the knife's original silhouette.

That's my two cents.

All feedback is good feedback.

Awesome.

See, I really like the idea of blinging out a DDR while keeping its original silhouette. That, to me, is the best way to pimp any knife, and Darrel's designs in particular are well-suited to aftermarket modifications and customizations. So why not offer in-house options?

I use a small lanyard with a bead on my ZT 551 that is carried in a holster on the belt. The lanyard makes it much easier to pull out the knife. That really is all they are for. If your knife isn't carried outside the pocket it doesn't really help much. I have seen some beads that are really very nice however.

I carry some of my deeper carrying knives with lanyards. I don't use a bead though. I use a King Cobra style knot with two small ends melted together. I like it much better this way. I also prefer my lanyard to be very stiff and allow for a secure draw in a pickle.

I think a short lanyard with a custom celtic cross bead would be an appropriate add on to the forum custom. It adds a little extra to the experience and those that don't use them can always take it off.

Lanyard beads are actually in the works. No eta, but Darrel did say he was working to get a skull bead made that he designed some two years ago or so. Celtic cross is also a possibility.

Lowrider clips: I expressed to him the growing desire for some people to put on low rider clips. It's something he's conscious of, but still working to get right.

The only use I've had for a lanyard is when I'm out in the boonies and I don't want to lose my knife. I have it tied to a belt loop.

Actually had a friend who lost an inlaid snakewood Sebenza that way - came out of his pocket. Really sucked.
