So does anyone here lap their sharpening stones? I normally use belts to sharpen blades but use stones to dress the back side of plasma cut blades before hardness testing. I have a few stones I do this with but I’m wondering if anyone had lapped stones before to make them perfectly flat. I have been using an eze-lap 2 sided diamond “stone” it’s just about wore out and I can’t believe how much I paid for it when I went to buy another one.

I have a Norton lapping stone and a 10X4" DMT extra coarse grit (somewhere around 150 grit, IIRC) flat-lapping plate. I use them occasionally to restore my water stones.

Seams like that is what I should look at. Thanks guys. Wonder if anyone makes a CBN plate.

Atoma 140 or a dmt xxc are good ones.. laugh if you want but I’ve used a cement brick more than once with good results

Ditto, i use the Atoma as well for all my stones, works like a charm for half a decade now and shows no signs of stopping.

I had resin bonded CBN plates custom made but I lap them with a regular aluminum oxide stone.

I would use a PVD diamond plate for your purpose.
