What's your price range?
I agree with Foxx & Wharn. I have a Swamprat Waki & just got my Cold Steel Magnum Kukri. I LOVE this combo. The Waki is expensive but well worth the price. I've taken it backpacking, used it to chop fire wood, dig holes & well, brake things. I can stand on it at a 45 degree angle with the tip on concrete and it goes back to true every time. Indestructible & keeps a crazy edge. SR-101 (5160) is a great steel. 5160 is used in Zombie Tools's stuff & it their heat treatment is anywhere near as good, they are worth it too.
I haven't used the Magnum Kukri yet but I have no doubts about it. I've used their "Heavy Machete" for years. & the Magnum is a thicker steel. not as springy & wont keep an edge but tougher than sh**. take a pull though sharpener a couple times *the ONLY thing I find them useful for are machetes, by the way* & you're good to go. if you bend it. use a hammer.
I'm honestly not a fan of Cold Steel as a company but I can't argue that they make some of the best machetes for the buck.
I'm REALLY interested in the Ruki but just found out about it the other week. but I really prefer my waki & mag kukri combo. Zombie Tools looks like a good company but know nothing about them beside that they make badass looking stuff from great steel.
if I get the money, I'm getting a couple things from them. they even have some Kukri like blades.
Waki:
~300 (If you get lucky) to 500
ANY Cold Steel Machetes:
10-30 (you pay more, you're getting ripped off)
Zombie Tools:
200-500
All worth the prices in my opinion.
PS. check out
http://hossom.com/ If you have the money. He'll even do custom designs. not a fan of S30V on big blades, personally, but really want a large CPM 3V blade. also anything from Busse & again. Worth it but stupid expensive *in a good way*.
