I'm looking to buy a couple of knives from Benchmade, SOG,and Spyderco.

I just wanted to know which online dealer/store/retailer do you guys usually buy from and trust?

Is amazon ok for knives?

I have read in an amazon review that the Benchmade 710 knife that he bought there didn't have the D2 steel that it was supposed to have but had another steel, so now I am wary of amazon at least for Benchmades.

What is the most largest and most reputable online knife store?

Just like when you say books, you think Amazon or Barnes & Noble.

What is the Amazon or Barnes & Noble of KNIVES?

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=699 Check here for reviews of online retailers.
My short list:

gpknives.com (lowest price for benchmades besides knifeworks.com)
knifeworks.com (have good prices on all three brands)
cutleryshoppe.com (best prices on spydercos generally)
knifecenter.com (probably one of the biggest online retailers decent prices)
bladehq.com (their store is about 20 minutes up the highway)
the-knife-connection.com

have bought personally from all of the above, all have fast shipping, are trustworthy and have good prices.

Due to feedback on this forum I'd buy from (but haven't yet)...
onestopknifeshop.com
Knivesshipfree.com
newgrahams.com
howesknifeshop.com
probably some others I'm missing,

It might be breaking some link posting forum rule but I'd risk the infraction and post the link if I was worried that I might get screwed.
People here have a pretty good eye for what's legit.
The best dealer deals that I've found have been with Knifesupply, Cutlery Shoppe, Knifeworks... maybe a couple others that I can't think of at the moment.

this actually belongs in the gbu, but there is nothing wrong with posting links to sites as long as they are not auctions.

i like:

newgraham.com
knifecenter.com

Amazon can be surprisingly good at times. Particularly with fairly common items. It's worth comparing price with them if they have what you are looking for. When you factor in free super savings shipping, they often have the best deal.
I've bought several SOGs and Spydercos thru them.
Generally I only buy items marked "Ships from and sold by Amazon"

My favorite dealers are:
New Graham
Knifeworks / Autoknifeworks
KnifeCenter - Sometimes has really great prices in the SPECIALS section.
I'd say they are 3 of the best around...good prices, good web sites, great staff and outstanding customer service.
BladeHQ/BladePlay is also very good.
If you check or search the FEEDBACK forum, I don't think you will find a negative comment about any of them.

The largest? Most likely KnifeCenter, though Knifeworks is probably pretty close. (I may be wrong about who the biggest is, if so, I'm sure someone will correct me...or even if I am right :D )

I've had nothing but positive dealings with these companies:
Knifeworks
Knifecenter
Oregonknifeshop
Gpknives

You can also try PoorFish Outdoors. They have some of the most competitive prices on knives and great customer service. There are some coupon codes out their also.

I've had good experiences with

New Graham, Grand Prairie Knives, Knivesplus, Knives Ship Free, One Stop Knife Shop, Cumberland Knife Works.

wessonacehardware.com ....awesome deals on benchmades after you type in the coupon code. Gets you at least $20-$60 off depending on the knife, and dont worry theres nothing special you have to do for the code, they just give it to you.

Otherwise, knifeworks.com is good too
and the sale forums on BF

hmmm...

not so sure abou that one.

normally, only auction spotting or spamming is a no-no.

Wasn't going to detract from the thread, but since you mention it.

I got an infraction for doing virtually the same thing.

Coincidentally also a link to A. G. Russell.
Folks were having trouble locating the item on AGs site, so I posted it to help them out.
Sort of surprised me, but I pretty much make it a rule not to argue with cops or mods :)

since both of those were in traditional, i can only conclude they dont care for those types of links in that forum.

i dont recall seeing similar infractions in other subforums.

each mod is allowed to run their house as they see fit, at least to some degree. each subforum may have a different set of rules members are expected to abide by when visiting that specific forum.

I do not know which knife that number represents. But I do know that a lot of knives that benchmade sells under one name (IE: Mini Griptillian for example) could have at least three different steels for that one knife you can choose from. And with amazon they sometimes lack this info and sometimes they have the info on the knife in question. My favorite store on line is Blade Headquarters or Bladehq same store but the latter is used online. I like them because I usually find their prices are what I expect them to be and on par with most of the on line market. And with them you get the full specs. on each knife you look at. Also why I like them because I am a lefty is that you get views of both sides of the knife.

I have found their customer service to be very good. And I also like the way they keep record of everything you purchase. So if you forgot how much you purchased a knife for you can look back and in Your Account you can find he whole list of anything you have ever purchased from them.

So I vote Bladehq for my favorite online dealer in quality knives.

Amazon is ok even if it is another vendor and the order is messed up you can go to Amazon for help if needed.

Knifecenter: No problems ordering from them.
Ag Russell: Another great one.
Newgraham: Excellent service as well.

For Benchmade knives I go to knifeworks. For Victorinox and Wenger I buy from sosakonline. Other common brands I get from yourcornerstore and amazon (but only if Amazon itself is the seller). For less common brands my store is knifecenter.

So is it safe to say that no one here has had any problems with Knifecenter and Knifeworks? No problem with getting an item that is not of quality? I just want to be sure, because when I buy online, I am always cautious, and always check which is the most reputable and the largest, just to add that extra security that I get the right item, new, and free of defects.

Life is defective.
There is a chance you'll get one that slipped by quality control.
If so, send it back and ask them to inspect the replacement before they send it.
Both companies have treated me pretty well.

Darn, I'm a sick man. I've bought from all but about 4 or 5 shops in this thread. I like Amazon if they're competitive and they give you free shipping.

Knifeworks is my hands down favorite. The The Blade Shop has sold me 3 good Spydercos and two Benchmades, a couple of machetes. They have some ugly stuff said about them but I call in first. Ask them if the knife is in stock, when it's shipping and 0 problems. Then I read the horror thread.

I stay with Knifeworks if at all possible now but bought a large Sebenza from Knives Ship Free and it came quickly an was only 3 weeks old on it's birth record.

Good thread!
