Las Vegas knife laws

I understand it is illegal to carry a knife over 3 inches in length concealed. I have 3 questions. If I'm carrying a folder clipped in my pocket with the clip visible, is that concealed or not? Am I allowed to carry a fixed blade concealed, if under 3 inches? I've been to Vegas a couple times so my experience is limited, what are the odds of having a problem if the police or casino security sees your knife clip? Thanks.

Yes I'm very sure thats considered concealed. Open carry must be on a sheath unobstructed by clothing (in Ca at least)
Not to sure about the fixed blade length laws. You'd have to check the laws of the city and rules of the casino. Maybe another here knows more about this.
As long as you're not being sketchy, I dont think the police would have any problem with seeing your pocket clip. Security guards might if the casino has rules against knives.

The law you're referring to actually comes from Clark County's code, rather that from the city of Las Vegas or the State of Nevada (neither of which have relevant knife restrictions, oddly enough.)
It is unlawful, within the unincorporated area of Clark County, for any person to carry upon his person a concealed weapon, not permitted in accordance with state law, of any description, including a knife with a blade of three inches or more, capable of being concealed, without first having received written permission therefor from the sheriff.

The "is a visible pocket clip still concealed" is a classic unanswerable question for pretty much the entire United States, because no court has specifically ruled on that specific situation. Nevada state case law seems to consider it concealed if it's "not to be discernible by ordinary observation." That is, can people looking at you tell it's a knife and not a pen or some other object.

Nothing in the text of the statute specifies it has to be a folder, leading me to believe a fixed blade would be permissible if <3". In fact, it doesn't even say it has to be a single-edged.

I can't answer the last part because it's far too dependent on the policies of that particular establishment. I understand some even have screenings to get in, and could prohibit any knife from entering if they so chose (because it's private property).

Nevada state law was changed in June 2, 2015 to drop nearly all restrictions on knives from the state level, except for carry of a machete.

I have logged a lot of time in casinos and along the strip. Never had a problem with Metro Police or casino security (knocking on wood). Would not want one. They don't mess around.

I commonly have a Sage 2, Bionic 2.0, or other knife with a blade no greater than three inches in the rfp of shorts or jeans. The pocket clip may be exposed or concealed by clothing, depending on what I am wearing. This is just my opinion, but I always assume that a knife with only a visible pocket clip could be judged to be concealed. However, based on the Las Vegas and Clark County ordinances, I am not concerned if the knives I carry are concealed or not.

If I use my pocket knife inside a casino, which happens, I do it discretely, complete my task, and put it away. I leave it in the car if I am attending a concert or know I will be going through a security checkpoint.

Where would you have a security checkpoint?

I shouldn't have said it that way. The arenas such as T-Mobile, MGM Grand Garden, Mandalay Bay Convention Center have security and metal detectors, just like any arena. When I go to concerts or other events I just leave the knife in the car.

But just casinos and bars and restaurants on the strip and Fremont St should be ok?

Never known them to hassle anyone at SHOT or the knife shows like USN. Not to say they can't if they want to but security in Vegas knows they have to keep the customers happy if possible. Just don't get tanked and start waving a blade around like you want to start a fight. They will be on you in an instant.

Correct. Been to Vegas a number of times with either a Delica or CS Mini Recon 1, never stopped nor bothered. Also, was there earlier this year when SHOT was going on (I wasn't attending) and there were a ton of people carrying pocket knives. Didn't see security or police stopping them anywhere either. They have bigger things to worry about, like the drunk, disorderly and actual criminals, which are a plenty out there.

My wife and I frequent Laughlin, Nevada often which includes Clark County (Vegas area).
I wear my Auto knife always while there..in casinos too. Never been hassled once. If it's a blade under 3" in Clark County, your good to go. I carry my 2.75" OTF all the time while there.
Never a problem.
