Lashing factory kydex to pack

I have recently stripped a new BK-2, and secured a smashing horizontal sheath from Skystorm, but in preparing my bugout pack I really wanted a way to attach the BK kydex to my Maxpedition shoulder strap in a clean, solid and removeable manner. I broke out the tech-lok which doesnt fit any way I tried to fit it, and researched here, and the best I found was duct tape, which is messy to the pack and sheath, and not easily removeable...any ideas? Lashing with paracord is another idea of course, but I have the problem of it being loose and floppy or crazy time consuming to get off...

With most of my kydex, it seems that the sheaths appear to have decent contact points (the rivets), they just seem to be made contemplating the ties downs needed for molle attachment or even lashing?

Thanks,

B

Zip ties. It get a aftermarket kydex sheath from a make like Azwelke or Godspeed who set up the rivets to accept tekloks . I guess you have a small teklok since the large one does fit the factory sheath IIRC

Shoulder strap for maxpedition? hmmmmmmmmmm which pack do you have?

Seems like it may be too heavy a knife for a shoulder strap. I always lashed mine to the side of the pack. Doesn't allow for rapid deployment but its with you nonetheless.

Thanks for the mention Clich:thumbup:

Just thinking outloud here but if it were me and it was just a "backup" sheath....... and I wasn't a sheath maker:D
I'd just drill my own holes..... no reason it wouldn't work and then you could have them exactly where you want them.
Again just thinking outloud.

The alternative is a Kydex sheath (stock sheath isn't Kydex) with the proper attachment points for whatever you're trying to do. I also make Kydex pieces that go across the front that you can run a "retention strap" through to secure the sheath. Here's an example:

Even a setup like this that was made for belt-carry is setup for all the other attachments too:

Good luck with your project and let us know how it turns out.

The pack is a monsoon gearslinger, so you might see the problen, it is triangular shaped at the top, and if attached to the side, the handle would point in a weird angle, and I dont beleive that I could access it easily much less replace it easily? I have a Coldsteell pushknife that I have had attached here, and as the techlok fit and the placement was great...I never thought I would change it...but then I found the beckers! I will get another pack at some point, two straps, and will lash a machax on the side or inside that pack but I want to configure my bugout bag now (especially after the storms last night!)

Yes the blade is heavy, but I think it would work well high on the chest crossing single strap as it is pretty wide. I cant see using paracord with these molle attachments because I would have to pull the cord really tight to secure the thing, you all know how tight a new factory plastic (not kydex? Didnt know that) is...I dont want the knife to flop around...

Ok, drilling holes is an option...getting another kydex sheath...have any of you used the molle lok from Bladetek? My tecklok is large, but I want the knife (and lok) to be vertcal, and the molle webbing is horizontal, so in that configuration, the techlok doesnt line up despite my finaglin...

Thanks for the replies..

I have the Monsoon as well, and have not been able to satisfactorily attach a blade to the shoulder strap, even the BK14 which is much smaller. I just keep my BK2 in the CCW compartment.... and my BK14 in the side pocket opposite the water bottle compartment.

does your pack have a hydration bladder area? i've done that with a large flat knife sheath, handle just sticking out some for easy access. shares the sheep less :)

low drag high speed ;)

It does have a bladder area, and I thought about that...but the way the zippers tilt toward an apex at the top, there is a lip of the bag at the top to cover the zippers, and so I cant have it sticking out of the top...

Molle loks anyone? Can they handle the weight?

Just got my Max Monsoon and am working on the same problem of how to put my BK2 on the shoulder strap so it doesn't flop around.I'll let you know what I come up with. I think the best option right now is going to be a pancake kydex(cause the factory plastic sucks!) and some kind of custom molle setup or malice clips.I'll get some pics up a.s.a.p.,let's see the variations you've tried too if you don't mind. The shear weight of the BK2 doesn't help either.May work out better once the tweeners drop. Working on it,Keep ya posted!

What I ended up doing is zip tying the techlok to the stock plastic sheath, and it worked ok. Still a little floppy, but good enough. I will try to get up some picts, see what yall think.

contact azwelke and get a bk2 sheath in pancake style and use your teklok. for the 40 bucks for the sheath its awesome. just my 2c's
or any other kydex bender on the forums for that matter.. and the stock plastic sheath dulls the blade due to its abrasiveness

Just remembered this one, it's set high enough on the pack that I can draw it and re-sheath it with one hand:

That is really slick! What kind of pack is this? I've been looking for a external framed pack about this size. Any info you can give me about it?

Man, I wish it wasn't the case but they discontinued this model.... it's made by Spec-Ops and I'll look up the name for you. It's an Alice Pack on steroids, with molle webbing on the top and sides and it works with or without the aluminum frame. I won this at a 3gun competition (2 actually), the other one has tags so I'll send you the name.

Ok, quick google search and you're in luck..... Spec-Ops just did a "Blast from the past" special run on these:
http://www.specopsbrand.com/tactical-gear/packs/recon-ruck-ultra.html

It's called the Recon Ruck Ultra (the Ultra part might be new), If you ever want to check it out you can borrow it (as long as you're not a smoker) I like it alot.

I've always wanted to sell off my chocolate chip pack to buy a green one so I might do that now that I can replace it.

btw here's a finished pic of that sheath:

Thanks for the info man and the offer to borrow. No smokers here!
I'll be checking out the pack. I have a much larger pack for extended stays, but would like to get into something this size. Especially with the molle attachments.
