LC200N?

I get that everyone is always sitting in a pool of saltwater but for those of us not living at the bottom of a salt pit what is the deal with LC200N? It's tough? it rolls like dough and chips like a bag of ruffles..to me tough means it doesn't chip when I cut cardboard (no staples), and the blade doesn't roll every time I wipe the blade down with a tissue...I hear that people like it, I have a few SPY's with it, and it's really not much better than CmOV##'s. I haven't taken it to the bottom of the ocean yet, but it's being marketed as this great wonder steel, I get H1 is just the worst steel ever besides 440A but for EDC for most of the continental US, LC200N is really not a great choice for EDC in fact it's terrible for just about anything besides seriously wet and salty conditions, and then why would you really want a folder for a diving knife?

It's a very specialized purpose steel. I don't know why you would use it as a EDC knife unless you liked to sharpen a lot.

I currently use a Spyderco H1 when I go duck hunting or fishing. I don't have to worry about it being exposed to salt water or a cleaning that consists of more than a dunk right away. I'll probably upgrade to LC200N for the same reason. Like most people on this site, I have numerous knives that are better suited for EDC.

I fully agree, it's simply a matter of the marketing and review sites that seem to push the new Spyderco LC200N steel into EDC use, the significant rolling from light use is sort of pitiful...and while it's advertised as a tough steel-any blade that easily rolls from cutting cardboard is not tough, who tries to stab a soda can or car hood anyway, we use ammo to do that

So, which knives do you have in LC200N? With this kind of damnation of a steel you'll also need to provide more evidence than verbal hyperbole. Got any pics of those damaged edges?

Right now this smells like a troll job.

yes I am definitely trolling LC200N I took a massive short position on the LC200N stock and I'm out to make a buck...I think you can find plenty of youtube videos where people show you the rolls if you look around, if you love LC200N that's great, I'm pissed because I blew bucks on two of them and they are terrible...to each his own..and I get pissed when I hear its great for EDC on most of the reviews and they say how hard it is..and its not, if you have great experiences with it great...

Which models. Pics or it didn't happen.

Spoiler Alert. YouTube; not a place for smart people.

Yeah, I stay away from anything called "stainless" for knives that are not kitchen knives.

I don't mind steels that are less prone to oxidation as a result of being alloys. Anything designed to be stainless though, sacrifices too much in hardness, durability, toughness for me in many cases.

I'm a carbon steel guy who likes high edge holding and stability. I'd have my folders in rex121 and my fixed blades in 3 or 4v.

If i was on a ship and exposed to salty water all the time, I might feel differently. But I don't.

My biggest problem is cutting red meat and getting a patina.

If you are having troubles rolling edges while slicing cardboard I'd look closely at your sharpening methods. Please don't come here and say something is a fact because " You tube". Show us what you are talking about on your knives please.

No one is saying you have to like LC 200N or Spydercos but if you have some real facts please show us. There are a lot of newer type people here looking for real information and facts so maybe reconsider what you are doing.

I've got plenty of use with LC200N and have experienced nothing of what the OP is saying.

Don't trust the opinion of anyone who would say this. Sorry, this thread is just plain trolling. Or, prove us wrong and post some pics! Give some details. Then we might be able to have an actual discussion.

Boys, Boys... he already said he has a few knives with this steel... that should be enough.

And he owes you no photos of those "few SPY's with it", there's YouTube for crying out loud.

He says the stuff sucks and it's useless for EDC. Now the burden of proof is on all of you that his statement is untrue.

It's like none of you have ever ventured onto the interwebs. Jeez.

I'm just here trying to give hope to the hopeless, friends to the friendless and clues to the clueless.

Now let there be peace among you... I am going back to separating these bananas with my new Tanto.

I have had my Pacific Salt for almost 10 years.
I carry it when I go on vacation, or when I know I am going to be in a very humid/wet environment. That's it.
I have 'heard' it scratches, and can chip easier than many blade steels, but I respect it's limitations, and only use it for light cutting.
For me sharpening is work, not fun. I prefer using box cutters for cardboard.

IME, serrated LC200N will roll, not chip. I am not using my Spydiechef hard enough to cause any damage to its plain edge.. Further, LC200N is a tough steel (like aeb-l and 14c28n), so chipping is unlikely and might indicate a lemon or a fake.

pm me with a price for your LC200 junk. I’ll take it off your hands.

Thanks, Joe. You were nicer than I was going to be. H1 is certainly not a terrible steel and LC200N is pretty good, as we all know. Facts. Just facts.

Maybe it is relevant, I remember Eric saying something about H1 being better than LC200N in serrated edges and plain edge LC200N being better than H1 in one of his recent videos.
