Leather Lace/Cord Wrap Handle

I'd like to wrap the handle one of my recent projects in leather cord, I've stalked some of the old threads (@Rick Marchand specifically) where whipping using twine, hemp, paracord, are discussed but I may have missed a posts about leather cord? This makes me wonder if there's are specific issues with cord/lacing that make it problematic?

I found a video showing a technique for wrapping a longbow grip
the leather is wrapped like paracord (loop at the top, pull the end down underneath the wrap); he uses super glue to secure the ends but I've read posts where Stacey has mentioned leather weld when matching seams (wrapping using larger pieces), what do folks suggest using leather cord? Rick soaks his materials in expoy, but my gut tells me that might not work with leather (no evidence to back this up though).

Thanks for the ear, cheers all

If you use leather cord/band I wouldn't soak it in anything I'd leave it as is
