Here is a picture of a leather lanyard that I made for one of my knives over the weekend...

I used black and tan calfskin, utilizing a square sinnet weave, and finished it off with a turk's head terminal knot.

I like the way these look on my knives and they are quite functional too as a quick deployment and retention aide.

If you decide to get to making these for fun and profit, let me know, I have a Microtech LUDT that rides in my Langlitz that needs a black and red leather lanyard.

Best Regards,

I've been making lanyards for awhile now...Some of them can be found on the knives of soldiers in Iraq....I have sent many overseas.

I don't have any red leather on hand, but I am sure that can be remedied...I also use kangaroo leather.

That's good work! If you get a Gold membership and post stuff like that in the Exchange section I predict it'll sell as fast as you can make it.

Sweet stuff you have there!!

I do have one question, from the pics it appears the loop is closed...which can't be possible since people must buy them to put on knives and such. So how does one get put onto a knife? :)

So how does one get put onto a knife?

Squeeze the loop flat and feed it through the knife's lanyard hole. Then feed the knotted part through the re-opened loop, and snug it up.

yep...using a piece of dental floss will assist when pulling it through the lanyard hole...

I agree with one of the posts above. If you get a gold membership you're sure to sell these things fast. It's always nice to have a ready made good quality leather lanyard. Useful to put on a lot of things. Damn i know those will look good on my Howling Rat and Battle Rat.

A couple more to whet your appetite...

Top one is a square sinnet weave with a turk's head terminal knot...Made from 1/8" handcut black kangaroo leather.

Bottom one utilizes a SS gate clip with an 8 plait weave and turk's head terminal knot, ending with seven strands knotted with Flemish figure eights...Made from 1/16" handcut black kangaroo leather.

Gitch, what braids are the middle and right? Those are nifty lookin'. Where'd you get the skulls?

round and spiral braid...I picked up the skulls at a craft store...

Am I right in thinking the round is a 3 strand sennit, like a crown knot? How do you make the spiral?

The round is actually a four strand sennit. The spiral is a 6 strand weave, and is about 1/3 larger than the round...It is actually two round sinnets spiralling around each other.
