Leather vs. Nylon Backpack

Let's assume there are two very well made backpacks that will last just as long as the other. One is leather, classy, and very non-tactical. This other is nylon, molle webbed, and looks like something a soldier would wear.

Even though the molle webbing provides some versatility, you are able to comfortably fit everything you need into both packs.

You can only pick one for an EDC- which do you pick and why?

Check out the back pack made by Saddleback Leather. I use it as my "war bag" at work(I'm an LEO). That thing is a beast. I love it. It has a 100 year warranty and I'm sure it'll last that long.

I also have one of those big Camel Bak packs that I kind of use as a "man purse" at work. It's also built tough and comfy. At the end of the day i'll take the leather any day. It just looks awesome.

I'd take the nylon even if I have to cut the molle stuff off (you said it would hold everything I need without it).

I don't like the look of "tactical" bags and I love the look of leather, but if I have to carry it leather's just too heavy (and too expensive!),

Depends...If its for urban carry/ school use/work, then id choose a leather pack.

If its for hiking then neither.

I hate the military-themed backpacks such as Maxpedition, 5.11, etc. And regarding a traditional leather packs. They may look nice, but theyre outdated for trailuse...

Neither a cordura nor a leather pack can compete with a modern pack form Osprey, Deuter, Gregory, Arcteryx, etc. Those packs were built for one single purpose - hiking and backpacking - and their features are lightyears ahead of the traditionals and "tactical" packs.

I like nylon if it's going to be used as a real backpack. I remember the old backpacks that had leather bottoms. If you're going to use it as a carry all. I'd use leather as long as it's made by a quality maker.

Molle. Leather is way too heavy and sweaty for me. I don't care if I look tactical or uncool or whatever, I wear what I like.

Saddleback= last bag ever. Buy the best, cry once!

I know how you feel though, they are expensive!

i have an SBL briefcase I use daily for school/commuting.

i like it a lot.

the primary issues i have with it are that it's heavy (comparatively to a fabric messenger bag like a timbuk2) and it's not waterproof.

Frost River - Hey, it has leather on it! I have two - luv em both and carry the woodsman daily.
