Just curious as to everyones preference of multi pliers/tools.

EDIT:
Add the SwissTool to that also..forgot that one..

My preference is Leatherman. I have looked into the Sog Powerlock's, and they seem like very nice tools as well. However, they cost more than I like to spend. I don't like the incorporation of tacticool type tools and rubbers and polymers into multi tools. I like the original all steel designs.

As for Gerbers, I don't care for the interchangable bits, first and foremost.

Durability wise, over-all design for convenience of use, average pricing, available accessories, available replacement parts, warranty service & cool-factor(hehe): Leatherman.

I seriously want to buy a Leatherman (Charge Ti or XTi)...but at $100 I'm a bit hesitant. Maybe they'll go on sale as Christmas gets closer...

SOG looks like a great tool also, but Leatherman has a few add on things SOG doesn't..different carry options, and I think I saw a ratchet set somewhere..

#1 would be the Victorinox Sprit (Vic swisstool if you want the bigger version). Quality is the very best. Not well known because it is not found in stores as much as the ones below.

#2 SOG- has the best pliers, #1 in customer care and the only tool that has intechangable tools...( meaning you can take it apart and customize it). And YES... it also has a rachet set with bit adapter.

3# Leatherman-overpriced for what they are but still a must have. Tools rust easy. Cheap leather sheaths.

#4 Gerber- You can get all three above but skip this one.

Agree with Colubrid above. I've been carrying a Victorinox Swisstool or SOG PowerLock S60 lately. The Leatherman tools are good, too, though not quite up to the SwissTool or SOG in fit and finish.

I have the Vic. Swiss Tool. I would put its pliers up against my finest Snapon's, of similar size in a strength test. A very nice tool with a kind of crude box like look.

The ST is big, and strong with a great selection of locking tools. You would have to abuse it to break it. The quality is there.

Swiss Tool sheaths are garbage. The nylon one is flimsy with a weak ass belt loop, and the fake leather one is even more pathetic, with its cheezy construction , and small bit of useless velcro that won't stay closed. The sheaths will never hold up to real use. A Chairborne Ranger will get a lifetime out of these sheaths and wonder what I'm talking about. So anyway just factor in the price of an aftermarket sheath with the ST if you plan on really using it.

Perhaps overpriced at list or "normal" discounts, but Leathermen are sometimes found on sale at deep discounts about 3 or 4 times a year where I live. This is also true for SAKs and Gerbers, but for some reason, Swiss Tools, SOGs, or other quality brand multitools aren't available at all in most outlets.

I have 5 Leatherman tools in different models, some for up to 10 years, and none has yet rusted. No dispute intended, just my experience.

Can't comment on current sheaths. My older Super Tool 200 and PST leather sheaths are okay, and the others are nekkid.

The Leatherman are the most comfortable, but the SOG is stout and one durable chunk o' steel; like 'em all, but usually fall back on the original--the Leatherman.

Colubrid,

If you could only get one. and it had to be able to take the abuse and always take you thru the day, and be what I would want on my belt, would it be the Spirit plus, or would it be the SOG Power lock?

and why? Thanks in advance. I think I have narrowed to these two but would like an experienced thought!
