Hey everyone, just got a couple new Leatherman knives and I'm looking to make some changes using parts of old ones and some new ones as well.

The new ones I got are a signal, wingman, and a Rev that I disassembled for parts.

Sorry for the long post, I just have a lot of ideas!

Firstly, I really like the size of the wingman for EDC. I want to swap the default combo blade for the straight edge off of my old wave (never really been a fan of the wave). The trouble with this is that the hole in the wave blade is slightly larger than the pivot pin in the wingman. I also would like to add both interchangeable bit drivers, large and small on the side that had the two screwdrivers by default. Finally, if possible I would like to replace the scissors (to put them on my new signal) with some sort of pry bar.

Secondly, I would like to make my old rebar (I say 'old' as in not brand new) into some variant of the bladeless version, so I can have a travel safe multi tool. If I can also put on the interchangeable bit driver from the signal that would be awesome too. Also I have no idea how to unscrew the rebar bolts.

Finally, I know it is still rather new, but has anyone made any cool signal mods? I'm already planning to swap the saw for the wingman scissors, and hopefully find another straight edge blade to put on it.

I also have a super tool 300 that I plan on leaving alone (because it's a beast).

Any help or links to other sites would be appreciated!

sounds like you should look in on the mad scientists at multitool.org. You have a challenge ahead of you.

A couple of thoughts on your ideas. No large multi will be TSA safe, they change the rules often enough, I'd never risk a custom.

A prybar will be tough to do, since the leverage is against the weakest part, and you don't get much to buttress it against.

Don't take these as don'ts since anything is possible, just things to keep in mind. hopefully you come up with something.
For lightweight use you can shim a pin by hammering brass rod into the blade pivot hole, then drilling it to size. Some guys use it on SAK mods.

An easier blade swap on the Wingman is to use the nonserrated blade from the Sidekick. I've done this, it's an easy plug-n-play. But it sounds like you don't have a Sidekick, so that may not be an option.

I built a "bladeless" tool by combining the saw and scissors from the Wingman & Sidekick. I also filed down the "package opener" tool to transform it into an awl. My intent here was a bushcrafting multitool to accompany a fixed blade knife, not necessarily to make anything TSA compliant. After all the effort this took, as Gadgetgeek suggests, I would never risk it at an airport unless I had some way to send it home if it got flagged.

Here's my Frankentool:

Nice, I have a copper farmer, I wish I could find somebody to swap out the saw for scissors, or a Phillips head..
