Leatherman Sidekick a bad compromise?

I'm looking at a Leatherman Sidekick. It has the combination of tools I'm looking for and seems reasonably priced, but I know it's aimed at first-time MT buyers. Does this mean the quality is lower on this tool compared to the others like the Wave?

Thanks all,

i believe that there has been a review posted. If i remember, the review was favorable and several chimed in and viced favorably. regards Henry

The Wingman and Sizekick are not on par with the Wave in terms of utility or quality - which should make sense as they cost half as much. The Wingman's scissors truly stink (thats my experience only), the file is short and lame, and the edges of the handles are sharp. Most tools don't lock.

The Wingman and Sidekick are better than a handful of air. I'd sure rather have one of them than nothing. But given the choice, its much better to save up for a Wave, Swisstool Spirit or other quality tool.

I have both tools. The Sidekick is one notch better than the Wingman (again, in my view), because the Sidekick does not have the crappy scissors.

If you have $25 that you don't know what to do with, I say go for it. But better yet, just hold out for the real deal.

I can't comment on the sidekick but I did pick up a wingman recently. Does it replace my Wave/vic. Spitit X? Definitely not, but its still a great tool for the price. One of the reasons I actually picked it up was to see what the build quality on these new entry level models was. I must say I was impressed overall. When I compare the tool set to the wave or my vic., it is lacking considering its size/weight but also isn't useless.

Thanks for the link, Powernoodle. I looked for a review but couldn't find one. You've confirmed several of my assumptions as well, so I may not drop the $30 on the Sidekick, especially since I'm not hurtin' for a MT...I was just curious because it seemed like such a good deal!

I got both because I'm an MT addict and have to feed the beast. But I can't really recommend them.

Oh good, someone else. I was reluctant to admit I had both.

To the OP:
Can't add much to what powernoodle said.
I might be slightly more likely to recommend them.

Their both decent enough if your expectations and needs are low.
After I'd seen a lot of negative comments, my expectations were low, so I was actually rather pleased with them.

Don't know if the Sidekick is worth the extra bucks. Depends on what tools you like. Don't really think the lanyard and leather sleeve add that much value.

The scissors on the Wingman got some negative comments, but they are useable.
I've seen some folks say they found the Wingman for $20 or so at the Home Depot type stores....its worth that.

Anyway, buy the Wave, you'll probably be happier.
