Question for y'all...

I just recently purchased a Leatherman Signal, and this is the first Signal I have owned, but not the first Leatherman and this one seem to have an issue that bugs me, and I can not tell if its supposed to be like this or not.

The "handle" I guess you would call it seems to have some play in it when it is closed. Well just play period because if I had a tool out it still does this and its throwing me for a loop. I can hold one side of the "handle" and the it will have a gap between the part I am holding and the the other half. Its a good 1/2" of play also. Now I guess I could see this being a part of the tool I guess to help in ease of opening at best, but I have never seen this on any Leatherman I have owned. So I'm looking for information/advice if this is normal or there is something wrong with this tool.

Thank you!

Sorry to hear about the play, if it is still within the return period, I would suggest to return it or exchange for a new one to see whether it would improve.

I own the LM signal, and personally think it is one of the more overpriced or ill designed LM I've ever own(I collected 40+). For one, the pommel/hammer at the end is only good for cracking nuts, but don't ever use it for anything else(definitely not tent peg or nail) otherwise it won't end well.

It sounds to me like the handle lock is giving you a problem. Hard to tell without seeing the tool or even a picture.

I would film a short video, upload it somewhere as ”hidden” or link only and ask Leatherman and link the video.

It has ended pretty well for me so far, and that tool has been used a lot. It is in fact the primary reason that I purchased the Signal. My original Wave is great, but it just doesn't make a good hammer. I wouldn't try driving tenpenny nails with it, or wooden stakes either, but sixpenny box nails and wire tent pegs? Been there, done that.
