Hi Everyone!

I lost my old regular model of the Leatherman Skeletool, and I am looking to buy a new one. However, when I did some online shopping, there are a TON of them out there!

I am hoping you all can help me decide which to get. I do not have a preference for the knife blade (serrated vs not), and I don't care about color. My main concern is corrosion resistance.

The models I have access to purchase are:

-Skeletool (regular)
-Skeletool Cabelas spec edition coyote/sand color
-Skeletool REI spec edition topo coloring
-Skeletool CX
-Skeletool RX

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I have the CX and it has been great. I carry it and the 2 bit expansions in the original pouch. Hasn’t given me any issues with corrosion and the 154cm blade steel is nice.

Is the weight reduction of the skeletool that important to you? Or the bit drivers? I ask because you can get a tool with more tool options at the same price or cheaper. The LM Rebar for example.

Of those listed, I'd go CX. I'm not a fan of serrated or partially serrated blades. I didn't bother looking up the REI or Cabelas version. If that blade is plain edge, I'd consider that too.

The weight is important, as well as the pocket clip, since I will be pocket carrying this tool.

I'm not sure if the REI model has serrations,a but the actual plier heads are coated black. I can't find info indicating what type of coating is used on the REI model, whereas the CX packaging states It's a DLC coating.

I've had the CX since they came out. I would carry it more if it weren't the old style with the combo edge. I still grab it on days when I know I'll have light cutting tasks but want the flexibility of having a capable tool set.

I have looked at and considered a Skeletool and of the options when I last looked the CX was my top contender.

I think CX or RX are your best bets. 154CM is good for corrosion resistance. I think go fully straight edge or fully serated. I've rarely seen a case where partially serated were helpful. The old style was plain edged so you are probably more comfortable with that. Get the CX.

If this is your only carry I think it's worth it to go 154cm on the blade steel, if you carry another knife and only use this as a multi tool than maybe not. I have a CX and really like it.

-Skeletool CX --- Better knife steel and more corrosion resistant, I've carried one for a few year. You can't beat it.
-Skeletool (regular) --- I don't like combo blades or 420HC, but it's cheaper.
-Skeletool Cabelas spec edition --- If you like the color and the combo blade.
-Skeletool REI spec edition --- If you like the color and the combo blade.
-Skeletool RX --- If you need to break windows.

CX for the blade. I disliked the regular combo blade so much I bought a CX blade and modded it into my regular Skeletool.

CX all the way, and get the plain edge blade. The 154CM blade steel is worth it alone. I use mine all the time. It's the only multitool I ever EDC because of the relatively light weight, smaller size, pocket clip and one-hand-opening blade.

CX.

I have the regular Skeletool and the CX.

Prefer the CX for the knife steel.

So pretty much as others have said.
